Was thinking about bringing my 11 year old to Canada fishing. Mostly walleye and northern fishing. Just wondering if anyone has suggestions on drive to resorts. I would be bringing my boat.
Give some more details on what you’re looking for like size vs numbers, seclusion vs accessible, big lake vs smaller, stick on 1 lake or trailer to multiple, and that kind of stuff. Then people can give better suggestions.
That said it’s tough to beat Lac Seul for walleye, and there’s big pike there too. Mahkwa isn’t the best resort but the location is.
Lake of the Woods has a million different options too.
Ditto previous poster. Lac Seul offers great walleye and pike fishing, along with smallies. Occasional whitefish surprise as well. Mahkwa is located in the central part of the system, with lots of good water to fish close by. It’s a busy camp though, so if you want peace and quiet, might want to look elsewhere.
Lac Seul can offer you 100 walleye days and fish over 30 inches as well. If you’re looking for seclusion, I’ve fished out of Lost Island Lodge. They will meet you at the dock and transport your gear to the lodge if it all won’t fit in your boat. There are 6 or 7 cabins on a small island. Can catch walleyes from shore.
Lac Suel offers many options and excellent fishing, I would agree.
Minnitaki Lake near Sioux Lookout has some great lodges and is very easy to get to. I think some may dismiss this as an option because it seems too easy. The resorts are mainly drive to.
My dad used to do a yearly fall trip with friends to some of the Minnitaki resorts. They always had excellent fishing. I think they went to Donnelly’s and Northumbrian resorts. Easy access and as an added bonus this lake has smallmouth which can be a lot of fun.
