Where's the ice?

What’s the best website to see snowfall total?

Plenty of lakes with 6-10 inches of ice from central MN and north. Problem is most have about 6 inches of slush and a foot of snow on top of it. Definitely safe walking out on it but walking out will be a nightmare and snowmobiles could be worse depending on the slush you find. If you want to avoid that fun look at the snow depth maps to the north of the state and go where it didn’t get pounded by the storm.

The start of the ice season went from great to horrible in a hurry. The south is in much better shape for the season than most of the north.

Most ice fisherman are lazy and this will be two years in a row in my area most people won’t be hitting the lakes. Good for fish populations but it’s gonna be a bear fishing it for those that venture out unless we get a warm up to melt some of it off. I suspect the areas with easy access will see increased pressure this season unless conditions change.

First time on the ice today. I went to a small lake near St. Cloud. I found very poor ice ranging from 5″ out in the open to 3.5″ under the small snow drifts. Small amount of slush. Very little snow. Ice had that soft, spongy feeling to it and water was pushing out of the holes when I approached. I won’t be hurrying out anytime soon. I can wait.
