Where would you go tomorrow on Mille Lacs – Nitti’s or Red Door?

Going to try to fish for 1 evening on Mille Lacs and friends have said to fish the top of the flats either out of the Red Door, Randy’s Rentals, or Nitti’s Hunters Point. We are coming from the Twin Cities area.

Looking for walleye and quantity is more important than size even though I know Mille Lacs isn’t known for high numbers. Just want the best chance at catching a few.

    Which one would you choose?

And if you want to recommend another resort that’s fine too.

Red Door is closest to the start of the flats. About all I can tell you

Red Door is about 17 mins farther down the road than Nitti’s but if the ice road from Nitti’s is far out than it could make up for it?

I’m going out of Hunters. Should be able to find fish out of any resort roads up there.

Check in with both resorts to see what their road system is currently like – I know Red Door was having issues getting roads out to some of the further flats. Haven’t been out of Hunter’s this season, just occupying a bar stool…

    Good idea. I’ll call.

Any idea on where I could get shiners, places down here are out.

Also, a decent price, friend paid $1.20 per shiner near Red Lake on Tuesday.

Buy pike suckers at Prince Bait off of 169. They have frozen shiners too

When you are talking to resorts, ask them about plowed spots. If they are available and if you have to pay extra. Or plan on bringing a plow, snowblower, or truck chains.

As others have said, your going to be hard pressed to find live shiners this time of year.
