Where to fish in the metro area

Going up to the twin cities area at the end of August. I’ve never been there before just wondering what would be a good lake to go fishing on. I usually like to target smallmouth, walleye or panfish. A little info would be nice. Might head up to mille lacs on one day depending on the weather but wouldn’t mind a closer lake.

Pool 2 on the ole miss, it would be hard to get skunked there.
    Plenty of good accesses

    Yes it would.
Like…will you be bringing a boat? And how much time will you have to fish?
Knowing those 2 things will go a long way on what recommendations can be offered here.

The water is clearing up and the bite is better than a few weeks ago. But I must be extra special because I’ve been skunked out there more times than I can count.

Minnetonka is a great lake, what side of town will you be on?

Bryant, lotus, minnetonka, drive out to waconia. Lots of little lakes to explore, or 2 hours up to mille lacs.

I’d give Prior lake a try. Although the bass are mostly on the smaller side the #’s are really good. It is also a great lake for nice sunfish. I use to go out early and fish Jig worms on the weed edges. I’d note or waypoint areas where I would get lots of panfish taps on the jig worm. I’d go back to those spots later with a slip bobber and leach and clean up on nice sunfish. You won’t need to go far from the landing for either bass or panfish either. Sandpoint just out from and left of the landing is a great spot to start. You may even catch a walleye or 2 while fishing either the bass or the sunfish. Good luck wherever you go and I hope you catch some fish

A can of corn up by the dam and your arms will be sore.

I’d second P2 – why fish a boring lake when you get on a hundred different species on the river. Your boat will handle it and the flow should be low. No fighting crowds, either.

Check out the St Croix. Lots of areas to check out between Prescott and Stillwater.
