From Southeast Iowa. Looking to head up to Minnesota but I have no clue where to go. Targeting Walleye, Crappie, and Perch. Also, looking to stay in a cabin. I do not want to really travel any farther than Lacs. Plus I’d like to go to a lake without restrictions on possession. What do you experts got?

it might be a tiny bit further, but the Alex area has some great lakes and is still in that distance range.

    Possession limits are state wide.

Pool 4. Plenty of places to stay near red wing. Better walleye fishing than anywhere else you’ll to and a whole lot closer.

We have enough citizenry that does this now. If all you want to do is fill a boat with fish use Iowa waters. The fish taste the same.

I’ve heard good things about lake X. If it’s not happening there lake Y is just down the road and they let you fill the boat with fish until it starts to sink.

If you are truly looking for no posession limits and we aren’t just misunderstanding you, check out yellow bass in clear lake Iowa. I think that is still a thing.

I was referring to a lake like Mille Lacs where there are walleye catch and release restrictions. I’d hate to travel that far if I can’t catch, clean and cook

Spirit lake Iowa is good for walleye, or the Mississippi river from pool 3 down to Missouri.

Iowa, Wisconsin, North & South Dakota. You can use multiple rods there also.

I understood what you meant. Strict slot limits, catch and release. Walleye are meant to be eaten, all your target fish are for that matter. The MN welcoming committee is something isn’t it?

Nowhere on my paycheck does it say “Minnesota Department Of Tourism”, grin

But Minnesota does have lots of slot lakes so the states I mentioned would work better anyway.

All good. Fishing is as good as a religion up there. I guess it’d be like if you northerners asked which farm in Iowa to get sweet corn from.

Also don’t forget the farm animals……got 4 drum today in the 8-10lb range. A bit too early for those but there were some nice eyes mixed in too. Red wing also has some cheap gas so its a win win. Unfortunately it is not a place to rent cabins……maybe a BNB?
