Where is "your" work spot?

Not where you are employed, but rather where do you work on your hobbies at home? The recent “projects” thread got me to wondering.

Myself I have an insulated work room built in the garage. I have propane heater that will get it to about 80 degrees in ten minutes on the coldest of winter days if I want it that hot but generally make it a 65 degree room. I do everything from grinding and stuffing sausage to air brushing and jig casting and soft plastic making in this room. If I have mechanical things to work on it gets done on the work bench in this room. The slot-board wall covering helps keep things in order and in a corner that’s just out of view in both pictures I have my receiver so I always have my music playing thru a pair of Bose speakers. Out of sight is my tool chest and air tool storage. I have some nice art work on walls not covered with the slot board but out of sight in the pictures on the wall with the door.

Seen coming in the door is the far wall with all the antlers [more are stacked in a corner out of sight in either picture but all are as nice or nicer, just no room] and my hooks and other hard components for casting lead jigs and general hard tackle making. Right now there are maybe 3000 hooks- trebles from size 14 to 4/0, sickle jig hooks from size 10 to 6/0, and bass jig hooks. Sizes 8, and 6 sickle hooks make up the bulk of the total number of hooks on hand at any given time. My air compressors are found just under the bench. My stuffer mounts to the boards where the lead pot is seen so the 2X6 base on the bench has a dual duty. The box is where I air brush using it to blow the paint into so over-spray stays at a minimum. To the left of the box can be seen some colorants for the soft plastics I make.

The picture with the window work area shows where I make my soft plastic baits, and to the left in the picture is where I have my jig molds hanging, also on slot board. I took the picture with my back to a closet door where I keep all of my hunting and fishing clothes, fishing poles until I get a rod rack made, and gun cleaning supplies. I store a handful of folding tables in the closet as well. I keep all of my soft plastics molds in the house and they alone could fill the window opening, plus they need to be warm when in use. The area under the bench from this view also is storage for hand tools, electronic scales and other commonly used goodies. The microwave is used to cook the raw plastic and more colorants can be seen next to it….I have a whole other pile of bottles of colorants of various vendors in a closet in the house so I don’t clutter up my work area too bad. The two kinds of paper towel each have their own use in what I do, plus I also have two huge bundles of durable paper napkins in the closet that I use when making plastic baits or while air brushing for clean-up detail.

Certainly not the neatest in either picture, this is my little domain. It cleans up easy and is fairly easy to keep orderly and where things I use often can be accessed with ease. I have some Shiner Boch on the bench to the left of the microwave right now and it stays plenty cold yet if I feel like tipping on while I work. If you look carefully in the picture with the antlers, in the upper left you’ll see a jug of Buckhorn Reserve Bourbon with my little sample glass. The closet has a jug of 4 Roses small batch camped on the shelf too. While there’s no running water in the room I have got it set up to be comfortable and efficient. And now with this stay at home stuff it offers me a bit of recluse from Ma. We’ve done really well with this crap but we also have our own places for our hobbies and we respect each other’s “space” so we can enjoy each other later in the day, every day. I’m accustomed to being up early, often at 4 am, and working on at least something whether tackle or the garden or yard or whatever and my early bird habits drive her bonkers. This work room has proven to be a blessing now with the restrictions.

Like other topics recently with the boats and cars, lets show our work areas where we play, or create.

    Nice set up.

Love the decor, every home should have decorative can of WD-40 on the window sill.

Pure utility Brad. Honestly, I use that can just about every time I inject plastic. Easy to get to right there and out of the way when I don’t need it..

One of the big selling points on the house we bought last year is it also had a 3 car-ish size detached and heated shop, which is where I do all my woodwork and lure painting. Kept it set to 45-50 all winter this year in order to guage how long the lp tanks will last, if we have a hard winter I think I will have to get a refill to make it through the season. Still do my epoxy coating in the basement as I want consistent warmer temps for that. Built a hot box in the shelf area under my paint booth so I can get my paints/lures good and warm before I paint. It sure is nice to be able to blast tunes while I work (shop is about 75 yards or so from the house), but it does take more effort to get myself to go out there on cold winter evenings than if I was just going down into the basement.

Decorative and useful, can’t ask for anything more than that. WD-40 earns a place of pride in every workshop.

    Very nice Tom

I got nothing to add. My work space is a 30X32 unheated garage. The car, truck and 2 boats sit in the driveway. The inside space is shared with a motorcycle, snow blower, 2 kayaks, a canoe and a whole lot of stuff which I don’t really need.

Awesome Tom! Thatza lotta jig molds!

One suggestion with that slatwall is to install the aluminum inserts. Higher humidity will soften the glue and heavy loads will break the top lip dropping the hook/shelf hanging from it. Seen it many times. The insert will help spread the load.

Does that stand true for an organized mess? Working 7 days a week for months created organized piles. Piles my wife refers to as “my sh.! that is taking over the house”

Work space for me is garage at my house for most fishing stuff. Haven’t had a car in there for nearly 20 years.

Reloading/rod building room in the lower level.

Wood shop and mechanical work in my pole barn at my farm

I found that at a small thrift shop in Dover, MN. I think I paid $20.00 for it. Pretty unique since the cabin sits in the middle of it.

Nothing special for me . I have a two stall garage I insulated it with some used insulation from a tear down. I added a natural gas furnace two years ago. The garage is pretty well packed . When I want to tinker on something I usually have to remove the wifes car and squeegee the floor. I upgraded the breaker box last year and added a new welder. The nicest thing I have is the lighting. I have four large florescent light boxes on the ceiling. Each one holds eight four foot lights . It lights up like a doctor’s office.
