I dont know anyone on here personally nor have I ever met anyone, but Sharon seemed nice with good stories and quick insightful answers. I guess im just saying with her stories about her husbands health issues in the past I hope nothing has happened to either of them to have her absent from here lately. Really non of my business I guess.

It is fall, maybe actually out hunting and fishing instead of trolling IDO, I know I wish I was.

She’s fine. Nursing one of their GSP’s from recent surgery the last few days but she’s still accounted for.

Maybe she just needed a break from some of the “dandies” on this forum. whistling

Hi guys, I’m still around. I love the speculations! It’s been a doozey of a couple of weeks, so I guess I’ve been rather quiet. As Andy mentioned above, our GSP Fritz had to have knee surgery a few days ago. Some of you might recall he had knee surgery in May 2018 on his left knee, and the recent surgery was on his right knee. They warned us he would likely need the surgery done on both knees, so we were prepared this time – though the timing is terrible! Fritz will have to sit out this pheasant season to allow for proper recovery. Surgery went well and he’s been resting at home with his brother Remi at his side. Soon we’ll start physical therapy and in about two months he should be back to normal.

The other news is that my husband Billy’s dad (Bill) passed away recently after a long battle with lung cancer and declining health. He was 76 and had been dealing with significant health issues for about a year. He had been on 24-hour care and at-home hospice care since about February this year, so his passing was bittersweet. He’s no longer in pain and suffering, and no longer needing PCA care services. Bill was a hard man to know sometimes and it wasn’t a family secret that Bill and I didn’t get along much. I met him when I was just about to turn 17 years old, and while we had our good moments, we would often end up bickering or arguing over things that suddenly don’t seem so important anymore. But it’s because of Bill that I met my husband, Billy. It’s because of Bill that I’ve gotten to know so many wonderful people who have become part of my family when I married Billy, and for that I am grateful to have known Bill. His life had an impact on all of us who knew him, and his life will certainly go on forever in our hearts and in our stories. Bill’s obituary is available here.

One of my favorite stories of Bill that you guys will enjoy – the first deer season that I was allowed to join the guys at the shack for deer hunting (until me, it was guys-only), we ended opening day by having dinner at a local diner in town. As we’re finishing eating, I start to feel a nudging on my leg. I look down and it’s Bill poking me and trying to hand me cash so I can offer to pay for the whole table and look like a big shot as a way of saying “thank you” to the gang for letting me join in the hunt. I accepted the cash and paid for everyone’s dinner. It was a fun moment and a side of Bill I didn’t always get to see. But I guess that’s the magic of deer season and being at the shack. Those memories you create will become great stories.

I really appreciate that you guys were wondering about me. Sometimes it’s easy to drift away when life gets busy or stressful, and it was just the thing I needed to log in and see this post. Thank you all. You IDO guys know how to make me smile.

I keep my eye on her pretty close just to make sure she’s OK. It’s been a tough couple of weeks. We’ll hopefully have a Pheasant hunting report in the near future, and once the river settles down Sharon and I will get back out there too.

I’ve been wondering the same thing. I always thought a day without Sharon’s wit was like a day without sunshine.

Sorry to hear of the loss of Billy’s Father and your critters need for surgery. Neither can be called timely so all I’ll offer is to keep your chin up, Sharon and Billy you do the same.

He was our proof machine and other machine repairman for many years. He always had a joke or story to tell. I remember how excited he was to move the deer camp etc. Again he will be missed.

Oh wow, what a small world. Yep, he was always ready with a joke and had many stories to share. It doesn’t seem real yet that he’s gone.

Well tomorrow will be 4 weeks since Fritz had his knee surgery. He is is doing well with physical therapy. He’s a little swollen these last few days, but we’re icing his knee regularly and trying our best to keep him calm and resting. Remi has been feeling playful and rambunctious, so we make sure to play outside while Fritz rests and burn off some of that GSP energy!

It’s a terrible time of year to try to keep Fritz calm and resting… he gets a whiff of that crisp fall air and he just wants to romp and run. This won’t be a fun pheasant season for Fritz or for myself. I’m just not sure if I will be able to leave him behind if I go. But at the same time, this is temporary and I can look forward to either very late season hunting, or spending time a a game farm next spring. Fritz is pretty lucky to have an introverted Momma who doesn’t mind sitting around the house quietly while reading. I’ve blown my 2019 reading challenge out the window!

“Sorry for raining on your parade”

Lots of folks here have dogs, and have lost dogs. They understand.

Oh Glenn, no problem. I’m so sorry to hear that. That’s got to be one of the hardest things about owning pets… the day we have to say goodbye. Especially if they’re sick or in pain. Pets so generously love us and give us years of happiness, and unfortunately also one really bad day too. Your lab is running free with the many dogs of IDO up in the sky, along with my husband’s family dogs Charlie and Archie. They passed away years ago but we still talk about them and reminisce. Hugs.
