When will the ice come?

It was 16 degrees out this morning and the ice on my pond is almost an inch now

First morning this lake was covered. About 25ac and 30’ of water. Carlton Co, MN.

Small in-town pond here in NE SD has about an inch yesterday.

Went out fishing a river in western MN, most of the small lakes had a little bit of thin ice on them.

I plan on going fishing Nov 15-17th up around Nisswa. Looking at the temps next 2 weeks looks promising!

For sure, the lows are in the teens next week

Think I will be breaking ice this weekend for last boat trip lol.

Very encouraging about URL! Will be there in 24 days

We were hoping to do a foot traffic trip and then an ATV trip…..

By the time I get up there after Thanksgiving it will be one tons and tandems…..

Any new updates from around the state?

Ice around barkers island on the St. Louis. River is long way from locking up but if we are making ice down there Fish lake (Duluth) should be ready by Sunday. The whole East End has already capped.

Pool 4 backwaters have a ways to go yet. We did have a full 4″ of snow overnight which should help drop water temps even more. The flow is still pretty high which is bringing current to areas that rarely have it. I think people may be sneaking out in the backwater areas the weekend of November 23rd and 24th if I had to guess. That’s still about a week or two ahead of a typical Pool 4 ice season.

Check out the Upper Red Lake resort Facebook pages. They’re showing ice out as far as the eye can see. JR’s is going to be getting their plane up soon to get a better picture.

It’s a little early to be booking trips up there. Last year it looked golden in mid-November until the 8″ ice sheet got crunched up by a windy stretch. You could see how thick it was in the areas that refroze like cobblestones.

We were out on Red on 11/28-30 on 10-11″ of safe ice. Local lakes on 11/20 and 11/22, judging by my phone pics.

Looking at the extended forecast we may be ice fishing before deer hunting is over! Next week shows ice making weather all week long.

For sure, and it looks like it just keeps going on the ten day forecast. Our last two warm days are Friday and Saturday with highs in the mid to high 30’s, I think that’s the last that we’ll be seeing for a while!
