So I’m in the market for a new auger. I’m leaning Strikemaster Lazer. When would be the best time to purchase? Black Friday? Attend an Ice Show? I’m in Duluth and would need to save a bit to justify driving down for a show. Or maybe try to buy used?

Look into Eskimo. Cheaper than strikemaster and great customer service. You can pick up a stingray for around 300 give or take. I’ve been running a stingray for 5 years and very happy with it.

Stingray is a great auger imo. Cuts fast and always starts for me plus its fairly light.
November 19, 2016 at 1:06 pm #1651472I think there are websites where you can buy peoples gift cards looking to convert them to cash. Maybe those are no longer but sometimes you can buy $300 for $200 or $250.
November 19, 2016 at 4:12 pm #1651485I bought an Eskimo hc 40 a few days ago at Fleet. Paid 425 but they had a 10 percent gift card with all purchases over 30 bucks. So I got a gift card for 42.50. I look at is as buy an auger, get 42 bucks in free tackle lol. Still waiting to try it out on ice, but after adding the 4 stroke oil and screwing on the propane it started on third pull right outta the box. I played with it a few times after and it always starts on the 1st or 2nd pull. Very happy with the auger. No more priming, choking, leaking gas or mixing gas for me.

November 19, 2016 at 7:45 pm #1651513I bought a jiffy pro 4 lite off of jiffy Web site cheap. I bought it last season. Great auger. Starts right away idles quiet and drills very well.i bought it to first off try a propane auger and cause I wanted a good backup to my Nils in case the blades got dull or to have a 8″ drill with chipper blade for drilling in higher traffic areas. I love the auger.
November 19, 2016 at 8:57 pm #1651520I bought an Eskimo HC40 propane last year on sale from Reeds right before a trip to Big Winnie. I love it. No smell, runs cooler, no fluids to worry about leaking, and a 1lb tank seems to last forever. And Eskimo really takes care of you when you need it. I have a buddy who busted on pole to a hub shack on the ice. Called them from the ice and they shipped him everything needed for the repair on the double!
hawkguyPosts: 76November 20, 2016 at 9:13 am #1651547I bought an ion from dick’s during there last 20% off. I am sure I could have gotten it cheaper on black Friday, but this seemed to be the easiest route for me.
ps0345Posts: 193November 20, 2016 at 9:54 am #1651552trade shows usually have good deals, I’d ask to get an extension for free if you buy from one of the places on the spot. Stores usually advertise the same prices when they are on sale. I’d say you have some time to look around.
I’d highly recommend getting a 4 stroke or an Electric auger if those are in your budget.ps0345Posts: 193November 20, 2016 at 9:55 am #1651553Mike JuenPosts: 6November 20, 2016 at 8:02 pm #1651644i wouldn’t waste my time driving anywhere. I you live in Duluth go down to MARINE GENERAL and Russ and Corey will take care of you. If you want to save more I live in Duluth and have a strikemaster lazer pro for sale that has one tank of gas threw it and comes with a snap cap auger guard Sweet auger fast and lite and the 3 hp solo rips

Eskimo is currently advertising a 5 year warranty on TV. I don’t know the details, but that’s pretty hard to beat.
November 20, 2016 at 8:49 pm #1651655Give you a great deal on a used, great running, Strikemaster Lazer w 8″ bit.
November 20, 2016 at 9:53 pm #1651661I have a strikemaster with a honda 4 stroke engine and I love it. I’ve left it outside in -15+ degree weather over night. The next morning started it up within 3 pulls. Another great feature of this augar is its the quietest gas augar I have ever heard.
