Yesterday we were on fish (walleye) pretty much all day, I could see them roaming around, come in for a sniff and just turn around.

I threw everything I had at them, I mean everything, from the stealthiest presentation to the most aggressive.
Got bit twice, Missed one decent eye at the hole.

what produced the 2 bites were a dead stick chrome slender spoon with a minnow head

What are your go to presentations when the bite is tough?

#6-8 plain hook. FRESH tailhooked crappie minnow. Split shot up enough to entice, but low it doesn’t have much range. 4# flouro for stealth.

Like to present a clean, simple, low profile presentation for when a fat happy fish swims along, sees nothing wrong with maybe a lil nibble. Doesn’t always work but it’s my go-to for now.

Will pull up my call-in bait lately if no go on that. Whether it’s a jigging rap, rattle spoon, etc almost seems to deter at times. Once I pull that up they will come back on the minnow. My sonar picks up both so easy to tell which one its coming at when baits are on different depths.

When they won’t hit jigging I deadstick them on a Finicky Fooler Tip-up. I use a #12 or #14 treble with a split shot and a large fat head hooked in the back.

When the bite is tough and you’ve tried multiple spots, put down two minnows at different depths. Sit back and wait. Accept that sometimes you won’t get bit.

Wish I had a better answer.

Typically I prefer a simple approach and just drink straight from the can but sometimes ill garnish with a lime. If the bite gets REALLY tough ill break out the hard stuff.
