If you budget properly a person making a average income can afford it.

Budgeting is huge! I’m only a few years out of college with a nice house and pickup, while making far less than many of my friends do. I (and my wife) budget every single penny we spend each month. After your first few months you can really see where you are wasting money!

The easiest examples come from TV, phones, drinks, food, groceries, eating out, and going to bars. A lot of my friends are still living in apartments and spending $30-45 at the bar every single Friday and Saturday night. Guess what, that’s $240-$360 a month wasted at the bar. I rarely drink now after budgeting (and growing up…), and while they may enjoy their bar life, I enjoy my money saved or spent elsewhere.

If you budget properly you can really start to take advantage of your income, no matter how high or low it is.

You hit the nail on the head. I proposed this to my wife along time ago, “if I quit going out with the guys and quit smoking can I buy a boat”? She said yes, well I have bought many boats since then. Much better investment with my time.

And to think I am spending $1500 to re do the interior of my boat. Work done by me of course except for the carpet work but hey the payments are grand

Ha! And I just dropped a whole $150 on my “new” boat! For the first time in a long time, my boats are downgrading rather than upgrading. For the moment, this one will put me on the water and get me there. I’ve owned some really nice ones and the toys that go with them are awesome, but I guarantee that I’ll be catching fish out of this one just about as well; I just may be a lot slower getting to/from the ramp. WHATEVER it takes to keep fishing!
