Depends on where and how you like to hunt. They are in the black hills as well as in some of the farming areas in SD. You have options.

Sandhills of Nebraska or the Black Hills would be the closest region to get a true Merriam. Farm birds of SD wouldn’t count for me and it may very well indicate they are Merriams according to the NWTF map. Just not the same as hunting the deep cuts and valleys for them. They are fun and vocal as heck but the challenge is more in getting to them than calling them in. By far over the years we’ve had more fun hunting them over the other 3 species.

If you want true marriams got to spring meadows outfitters. Justin will hook you up in Nebraska. Awesome outfitter we used him last year for are antelope hunt. He kills a ton of marriams. I think so far they have over 25 killed and you will probably stay in Gordon Nebraska and I think his spots or a little bit from there but not sure. Look him up and tell him I sent you.
    Thanks Matt
