I really wanted to make it out to catch some salmon and trout. I’m retired and still have to work around other obligations. Hope that this might become an annual event??
July 25, 2014 at 12:40 pm #1441993Anxious does not describe it – maybe part of that is just looking forward to a break from my desk… One more meeting at 1:00 and then I am out of here.
Let’s get the wheels spinning.
See you in the morning Joel

July 25, 2014 at 1:27 pm #1442001Hotel Wieland will be in operation in a few hours, couple guys staying here, so lots of anticipation and we’re still 45+minutes away from the pond.
I dug out some old archive spoons I had…from the looks of the orange, 1989/1990 is happening all over again. My 6 spoon spread from 1989

July 25, 2014 at 1:43 pm #1442003Ben’s on a roll with the runts!
Two minutes before this giant Ben had a 10″ brown.
The rain has started but it is more of a steady drizzle than anything. The bite was dead slow for us from 11am until 1pm but it is picking up now off Fox Pt.

July 25, 2014 at 3:11 pm #1442010As much as it sucks knowing this is going on and I can’t enjoy it… it is so COOL keeping track of it all here. The thread is great for living through it.
Have fun out there this weekend everyone!
July 25, 2014 at 3:30 pm #1442012Couldn’t make it this year because of previous plans but hope to next year. Give em hell guys. Strain Lake Michigan and keep some grillers.
July 25, 2014 at 4:20 pm #1442018It took awhile but we finally found bait. I think everyone knows what happens next…

July 25, 2014 at 4:23 pm #1442020Ben gets a more respectable king the first pull through. Hopefully we can keep tabs on the bait until prime time.

Got a later start and headed up to Fox Point with James and Randy. Didn’t take long and we smacked a Steelie on a white spoon on 5 colors right around 60 feet. James follows with a laker..

July 27, 2014 at 7:47 pm #1442175Tough fishing but great group of guys and a fun (sleep deprived) trip.
Learned a lot as always. Mostly that I need to continue to make changes to my program. Especially the flasher/fly portion of my program. What had been working so well for the past couple of years with my flasher/fly’s is clearly not working anymore and needs to be changed.
My riders, Dave & Dennis Ansell were great a great pair to share time on the water with. They clearly enjoyed being out on the water and were willing to do whatever they possibly could to help put fish in the boat and to keep the boat organized.
It was also nice to put a face to a few more IDO’ers. Great to meet you all!
Special “Thanks” to Nate Kaminski for all that you did. Thanks for your hospitality Nate!
Finally, I can honestly say I’m already looking forward to doing it again next year.
Dave Ansell with a 10-1/2lb Steelie.

July 28, 2014 at 2:16 pm #1442508No problem Joel! Was pleasure to do what I could to help facilitate this, and I also would do it again in a heartbeat. Also, anytime you’re in Milwaukee, you’ve got an open invitation to stay at my house. Or, should I say, sleep in your truck in my driveway…
