Dumb question but what do people do to keep their carpets from being wet all season? Maybe it isnt an issue but im imagining that they get wet and hold some moisture

I have a fan or two running all the time…helps both distribute heat and keep the carpet dry. That being said, we’re looking at buying new this coming spring and will be going with rubber flooring….

Honestly never had a real issue with wet carpet. Brush the ice shavings back down the hole after you drill holes and the carpet will dry pretty quick. The bigger issue I have with carpet is the smell that it will hold from fish flopping around on it.

I am curious as well. I just bought one this year and mine has carpet as well. I was planning on going to menards and buying some of the cheap of the spool runner rugs and laying those down to protect the carpet as it’s in good shape. However when I measured and looked at the layout it is going to be a arts and crafts project to make it all fit and still be able to use the holes.

Best way to keep it dry is don’t get it wet to begin with. Put a rug in front of the door and drill holes before setting the house down on the ice. All the chips stay under the house where the should be.

I have carpet in mine and don’t have any problems. Absolutely zero fish smell and that’s with little kids trying to hold fish and playing in minnow buckets…. Shoes off at the door and into crocks. My buddies have rubber floor and it always seems to be wet. I also keep a fan going to help with heat distribution. I had a baby crawling around on the floor for a couple years so the carpet was nice for that too.

I have carpet as well and will echo what’s already been mentioned.

I thought about switching it out but I like it!

I have a ceiling fan. The #1 thing though is to have an electric auger. My carpet is never wet unless I’m running in and out a lot but then it’s dry in about 15 minutes. You have to have moving air and, of coarse, a direct vent furnace.

    I HATE carpet.

I don’t have carpet in my kitchen, so why would I want it in my shack or boat lol

Laminate in a shack is the way to go.

It’s easy to clean, easy to dry and it’s smooth. Not to mention by far the best looking.

Carpet smells, holds water and collects lint/dirt/pet hair.

Rubber floors sound like a good idea, but they are a bitch to keep clean. Most are textured (coin) which traps debris everywhere, and lint, pet hair, etc sticks to it like no other. It’s also ugly as hell.

But carpet is warm. If you don’t do overnighters or multiple day trips go hard flooring, I do. My carpet doesn’t stink, I have no pets and it dries immediately with a ceiling fan. My house is so dry I have to add humidity.

I have carpet in my house and it doesn’t get wet dirty or stink. If you pay attention a little bit it’s really not that difficult to maintain. The wife and kids prefer the carpet over anything else. We just don’t let fish lay on the carpet and we sweep ice chips down the hole. Carpet doesn’t get wet in the first place.

With that said I agree with others. I think vinyl would be easier to keep clean and more “guys weekend” friendly.
