How many of you use your stove and oven? I’m thinking of pulling the trigger, but not sure I want the stove and oven. I would rather have the counter space. Microwave would be acceptable if is was up on a shelf.

I Use both all of the time. Heat water on top. Pan fry anything you want, oven gets even more use, from simple frozen pizza to premade eggbake, casseroles, cookies and cinnamon rolls, nothing better than the smell of something baking while you are catching fish, also if you set up your meals ahead of time, just throw them in the oven, less down time fishing.

Lots of pizza, corn dog, and lasagna getting cooked in our oven.

I use both alot also. Cook breakfast and fry fish on the stove. And cook pizza and other hotdish type stuff in the stove. 9×13 cake pan fits good.

It is funny their is usually a flurry of good fishing while I am cooking breakfast.

Like everything everyone else has said, for sure. Even though I have no wheelhouse, perhaps one of the most enjoyable part of staying in sleeper house rentals is having everything you need and cooking in there. Nothing like filling the fish house with the aroma of frying bacon in the morning, breakfast sausage and eggs? Baking a frozen pizza later at night. Imagine a pot of chili simmering all afternoon on the stove top on low and having a bowl in between fish catching. Many real goodies you can have ready ahead of time and then just put in the oven or cook up in the pan. Last year I made up walleye wild rice cakes the night before and they were all set to cook up in the pan fried in butter. yay

What I do, wake up before sun up and get the coffee going. Have coffee and a donut if you need and fish as the first light appears. By midmorning when the sun is up, I start frying the eggs and bacon. peace

I think the oven would be useful but you could use a Coleman propane stove instead of a built in if yu wanted to save counter space. The best frozen pizzas I’ve had on the ice are made using a pizza cooker not an oven. While cooking on the ice I typically cook outside on a portable cooktop and barbeques but it all depends on how you want to cook.

Don’t they make cooktops that come with flat covers to act as extra counter space when not in use?

Wouldn’t recommend using a Coleman propane (camp) stove inside the fish house.

Then you haven’t been out when it has been -20 degrees (literally) with some wind blowing. Try frying your eggs or whatever else out there. No how…no way. tongue

Jack knife sofa………are you talking about a hide-a-bed? I can’t sleep on one of those. I prefer a recliner. But, it’s your money. grin

The Jack Knife Sofa in my Ice Castle is a piece junk!

I looked at them at the shows a couple of years ago the ones the Yetti’s use seem like the best ones. I believe they were Mastercraft brand. I think the Firebrand houses were using the same ones. I remember them being around $500.

Yea why? I’m assuming CO concerns?

If they both burn propane, I can’t see why it would be a co concern.

I personally have a Pizzaz pizza maker sitting on my counter 24/7. Makes perfect pizzas! I also make anything else I want on that pizza maker grilled cheese bacon eggs egg bake there’s really nothing I can’t do on the pizza maker that I could do in the oven. And it’s way faster and more even. That said most fish houses come with a stove oven combo so it is what it is.

We’ve used our oven a few times but it’s extremely uneven Heat I think you’re better off cooking with a blowtorch.

The flip out couch on my ice castle is extremely comfortable! I got the leather version so it was easy to clean. My favorite place to sleep in the whole house! In fact my wife and I lay it down and both sleep on there.

With the cold winter forecasted it should be a good year to have a house! Good luck shopping.

ANY FOSSIL fuel that is burnt produces CO whether it be gasoline, diesel, propane or natural gas,as well as any other thing that produces a flame,ie,wood, coal etc.
burning propane or anything else inside without proper ventilation is asking for a one way trip to the morgue.

    you got it Joe waytogo

ive seen some crappy looking pizzas come out of those ovens put in ice castles. The ovens just dont seem to produce consistent quality heat. They will work ok for heating things up but cooking in it is hit or miss

Boy, I sure wish I had an oven. If I ever get a new house, it WILL have one installed.

I could probably do without the oven before I would a cook top. I just like frying eggs ‘n’ bacon and fish and things like that. Plus I like simmering soup or chili during the afternoon while out there.
I am intrigued by this Pizzaz thing. Does it really cooks eggs and bacon and such? I might think about something like that for home.

On another note, I now wonder about the propane stove top. I posted earlier about not using a Coleman camp stove inside because I have one and it warns…”For outdoor use only”. But thinking about it, what much is different from a propane stove or cook top that is already inside?

I had an ice castle, sold to my bro, then bought a Lodge.
I had outstanding luck with both ovens and as many pizzas as we cooked, I have to say, at least my experiences were they were about as good as a regular pizza oven. Many frozen, but the Papa Murphys was the cream of the crops!
Used the stove top for a lot of different uses inclding warming water for sponge bath when out for more than a couple days

Wouldn’t own one without oven and burner top.
    Just my $.02

Being I built my interior, A pizza Pizzaz and an electronic griddle are the only two options I have. In college, I used a Pizzaz for EVERYTHING. That has transpired into my ice house and I don’t know what I would do without it. It would still be nice to have an oven, but the Pizzaz does pretty good for me. Chicken nuggets and tater tots are my personal favorite on the Pizzaz. I also make a small “pan” out of tin foil and have done baked Walleye fillets with lemon on it, works awesome.

I use pie pans for everything Pizzaz. Toss anything you want in there and done. It does a great job on anything you normally fry as well. Mozz sticks, onion rings and so on. The best is bacon though. I toss in a 1/2 pound and it doesn’t even splatter. Toss the pan in the trash and keep fishin!

I certainly don’t loss weight during the winter ice fishing season. I think the running and gunning days offset my sit around with the family days though waytogo

Well we still don’t know if the OP, eelpoutguy decided on the stove/oven yet for his new wheelhouse, but you guys just convinced me about the Pizazz. I just ordered one from L&M Fleet (of all places) for $30. Regularly $44.
    Thanks guys… waytogo

In my Ice Castle Rentals I use Biaggia pizza ovens. They cook pizzas even and easy. I also use electric griddles.

It will probably be with stove and oven. But my choice would be pizza oven and electric griddle,
You can never have enough horizontal space. Plus a wheel house without a stove and oven are difficult to come by from what I’ve seen.

My oven has never been used. I think the owners manual is still inside. I rarely use the stovetop, mostly camping in the summer. I have a pizza oven in my Firebrand, I grill a lot, and if I want to fry something I bring my turkey fryer setup. I set my Otter resort hub next to the house for the bathroom, storage, and cooking in. I CANT stand smelling fried foods. Especially fish, and bacon. I love them both as much as any fat guy, just can only stand the smell for so long. Heck come to think of it I don’t think I’ve ever fried bacon or fish inside my place of residence. Weird I know. Friends give me S all the time. Wife’s on the same page.

In my firebrand my gas cooktop has a ventilation hood over it to remove cooking odors and co. Co is deadly over extended periods of time in enclosed non ventilated places. Therefore you should never use a gas cooktop for heating especially when sleeping. It’s designed for cooking while your awake and the hood is venting to the outside.
