My exhaust for my wheel house is in the V front.
When traveling snow ,slush ,road salt and sand gets packed in the exhaust.
I am concerned later on exhaust pipe could rust out or plug up freeze.
Is there some sort of cover for this.

I use heavy duty duct tape. Also use it when storing to prevent bees wasps and other insects from setting up shop in there. Just dont forget to remove it when using though.

    Would something like this work?

You’d have to see how hot it gets obviously, and how far the cover flips away.

You could look around and see if they make these in metal as well.

    Thanks

I will try the duct tape

The cover would be nice idea also if I could engineer a hinge pin to the cover making it removable

How hot does it get? Could you use the same thing as your dryer vent on your home?

Possibly a custom made aluminum or stainless steel deflector/shield? Made open at the top and bottom and deep enough not to block the furnace vent outlet. I would think 2.5 – 3 inches beyond the end of the vent maybe??? Extending a few inches above and below the vent to provide adequate coverage.

Slush would hit outside of the shield keeping the vent clear. The vent should still function due to the open air flow from bottom to top of the shield.

I could see that shield deflecting the heat up and burning the paint off the side of your shack

Mine is in the V as well. If its sloppy i try to remember to put duct tape over it. Ive had mine plug up like that as well and had regulator pack full of slush cause its in same spot.

If it were me, I would custom make an Alum or SS hinged deflector.
With the amount of heat that comes out I would not want it blowing up against my shack, thus being able to flip up/open and latch into open position.
Also I know Attwood has their combustion air pick up beside the exhaust, I would assume Suburban would be similar.

Might be worth a call up to Smokey Hills to see if they have any suggestions.

I defiantly want it to be removable concern about CO coming back into house

You are right about combustion air.

I imagine after thinking about it no one would manufacture this because of liability of CO poisoning if you did not remove the COVER.

You won’t get any CO in the shack regardless, just less oxygen for the burner to burn.

The vent pulls air from the outside and pushes exhaust from the inside of the furnace to the outside.

None of that air/exhaust is exchanged in anyway with air inside the shack.

The only way to get CO in the house would be an open window, range hood, or up through your holes if not banked/sleeved.

That is a stupid design, sorry, but it is. Something removable is the only way to go. If its just a shield like shown above, it will still plug up with ice, slush and road grime.

Make you wonder who designs the heater location in these things.

Depending on what grade the stainless is but maybe a strong magnet would stick to it and block the hole

    Damn, what year?

I wonder if the newer 2021’s and after are still like this.

    What a poor design.

This is from 2 houses ago but worked great. Just a flat piece of aluminum bent on each side. No heat on the house and vented perfectly. Could have been shorter but cheap and effective.

Good innovation with the hinge pins.

Just be sure it’s not too close to cause back pressure or inadequate ventilation. Looks very close to me

That makes sense. Strong winds caused me problems-two different problems.

Nice work, now maybe you can market it and sell it to Yeti since they designed the flaw to begin with. waytogo

I just got a towtector for my F250. I haven’t got to test it yet, but the idea is to keep as much of the slush, mud (gravel roads), and rocks away from my cargo trailer and boat / trailer.

I don’t have that type of furnace, but I have a diesel forced air heater with an exhaust only exhaust and planned on putting some stainless steel wire wool in it to help keep insects out.
