No pumpkin pie or sweet potatoes for me.

Everything else is a go waytogo

I’d eat them if I was starving but there’s so many other things that are better to fill up my stomach with.

If you only scoop off the top half of a green bean casserole I think they’re pretty good.

My mom makes green bean casserole with fresh green beans and they have some texture once finished. In my opinion it is way better than canned green beans that just turn into mush.

Luckily the last 3 times I’ve filled a spring turkey tag, I’ve been able to find a home for it (that isn’t my own), so I didn’t have to choke it down. I like hunting them. I just don’t like eating it.

100% agree. I’ve had Wild turkey many different ways and none of it was what I’d call good. Then again, I’m not a fan of any turkey for that matter.

I dont do cranberry’s in any form. Especially the can-shaped blob.

OK, I stand corrected. Cranberry’s are higher on the dislike dish than Pumpkin Pie.

    Can-berries? Naw…

Just take 10 min and make them – much better. If you don’t like the whole berry thing, immersion blender –

Pretty sure the only reason people make the green bean casserole is the same reason they buy fruitcake, but that’s next month…

    Stove top stuffing
    canned cranberries
    margarine
    instant potatoes
    freezer pies

for those that hate cranberries – try some fresh cooked:
    1 bag of berries
    cup of sugar
    cup water
(I sub fresh orange juice + orange zest for the water)
    1/2 tsp cinnmon
    scant pinch cloves

combine and cook on low, stirrig occassionally until the berries pop

next day leftovers eating it cold is just as good or better

Fresh is best – cooking good food is not hard.

That sweet potato crap with maple syrup, pecans, brown sugar and marshmallow on top. A close 2nd is the cranberry cylinder. It’s the simplest thing to make good cranberry sauce from scratch. Cranberry, water, sugar, lemon zest, cinnamon. My sister in law just cooks a can of crushed pineapple with sugar, water and cranberries and you wouldn’t even know pineapple was in it.

Any canned vegi floating in a creamy Campbells Soup-no no. Raisins in stuffing, just don’t save those for some cookies.
Mostly though it is my favorite meal.

Damn – add pinapple to my list……….

I’ve also added frozen blueberies, black/rasp berries and just about any other frozen berries as well.

One nice thing about the South is Pecan pie surpasses pumpkin pie at most winter meals and holidays. Oh my, do I love me some Pecan pie.

Sweet potatoes or squash. I agree with anyone above on the candied and marshmallow C#^&.

Cube them, coat them with olive oil, and cook with some onions and a little garlic. Drissel with balsamic vinegar. It is simple and savory (not sweet). Great addition to the yellow and orange vegetable mix …

just thinking … probably an upgrade to throw in some cubed venison.

Agreed. Even sweet potato pie beats pumpkin in my book. Gotta have real whipped cream though. Cool Whip is for the same hillbillies that prefer Miracle Whip over mayo. whistling

John, you drop a post like this and don’t share your secret family recipe. I would like to find a recipe that my family likes. Could you please share.

Sorry guys been busy at work. Honestly I don’t really think there ever was a recipe per say. Cream of mush (reg or garlic) mom did not use garlic, french cut beans and the fried onion things for the top, seasoned well with S&P and almost fill the dish with milk so it doesn’t dry out. Maybe I just like it, sorry did not mean to get you guys thinking I had some sort of secret recipe.

Depending on how far back you want to go, venison and fish are tradition and were likely served at the first Thanksgiving. Probably not aged ribeye, though – but I wouldn’t argue or complain if I were at your place tomorrow! cool

I’ll eat turkey but don’t necessarily love it. The thought of having a leftover turkey sandwich the next day just isn’t even there. Put it in a homemade pot pie and I’ll eat until I’m sick. I’m gonna put that on the calendar for next year!

Another ish vote for green bean casserole.

    @sthompson67
, (sparkles) that’s almost enough reddi whip for that bite of pumpkin pie! I’ll take an apple, lemon meringue, or peanut butter pie please.

I’ll be a weirdo here and support the marshmallows on my sweet potatoes. I’ve got a sweet tooth I guess.

I didn’t think there was a bad dish on the best holiday on the planet. Turkey….who doesn’t like turkey?
I guess I am not a fan of white meat and sweet potatoes but everything else is amazing! send your leftovers my way please!
Extra cranberries too. I used to hate them as a kid, now I load up. The cheaper the better!

I was gonna say the cranberries too, but any canned vegetable really should be only for emergencies.
Cranberry juice on the other hand, great for rum or brandy!

Turkey. The reason people cook Turkey is because it’s the cheapest way to feed a lot of people. How much would you spend for 22 pounds of ribeyes?

    Most underrated dish: mashed potatoes.

They’ve gotta have garlic and plenty of pepper to really make them the star or the spread though

I can agree as well but gravy might be the most underrated to me anyway.

I mean it completes mashed potatoes and stuffing and makes the white meat edible.
