I thought it would be nice to give all the ugly post a rest and have some fun. I am curious of what your favorite vacation location is? Possibly answer the following:
    Location?
What are some of the fun things you do while there?
Are there any special foods or Drinks associated with the area?
When was the last time you vacationed there?
How soon do you plan to get back there?

I’ll start it off with mine:
Location – Treasure Cay in the Bahamas. I have been there 4 or 5 times now.
Fun things to do there – Just hanging around on the beach. The beach there is one of the most beautiful anywhere in the world. What make it even better is the low # of people on the beach. Often early in the morning you can walk miles without seeing anyone or maybe just a few other people. Island hopping to other nearby islands. We either rent a boat for the day or jump on one of the many shuttles for a day trip to a different small island. Fishing – I have both Deep sea fished with a local guy and caught Wahoo, Mahi Mahi, and yellowfin Tuna as well as bonefish on the flats. Then there is also just fishing in or near the local marina for Mangrove snapper, many other cool fish I don’t know the names of, and even a few Tarpin. We have also caught our own Lobster and Crab.

Special foods and Drinks – The area is known for its Conch. Many different ways to eat it. You can have it in a salad. a fritter, on a Sandwich, or my favorite is Conch Ceviche. Another local favorite food is called Johnny Cake – It’s almost like a cornbread – Way yummy. The local drink is a Goombay Smash. It has 4 Rums, apricot brandy, orange juice and pineapple juice. They are really yummy but also dangerous. They tend to sneak up on you really fast.

The last time I was there – It was about 4 years ago. We were there over Easter Vacation. It was kind of different doing Easter in a tropical setting but was really fun. They had lots of fun things setup for the kids and the largest Easter egg hunt I’ve ever seen.

How soon do I plan to get back there – We actually were planning on a trip there this year, But the area was hit REALLY hard by hurricane Dorian last year and is a real mess. I don’t think they have even got running water or electric restored yet. It’s really sad. Our friends who have / had a Villa there that we use to stay in, had it totally destroyed. They plan to rebuild it but they have no idea of how soon that is going to happen. My next trip there may be to help them rebuild it when things are in a little better shape in the area.

There is mine. Let’s hear yours.

Cool topic. Personally I haven’t had a vacation in years. In my younger days I did a lot of road trips around America. One vacation I would like to take my boys on before they get too old to want to spend time with me is on a road trip out west. Spend a few weeks on the road and visit Yellowstone and glacier national parks. Wouldnt be quite as relaxing as a beach holiday but memories that would last

Labelle’s Birch Point Camp on Northwest Bay of Rainy Lake. Gone there for over 40 years (not this year) and STILL have a thousand spots to fish! It’s a family tradition.

Any fly-in lake. I’ve only done it once, but it was a piece of heaven. So quiet. Beautiful scenery. Only ones on the lake and more fish than you can imagine!

Disneyland and Disney World. I enjoy them immensely. Great food, great times. Makes me feel young again. 😁

Almost any National Park, Zion has been my favorite so far.
Still hoping to drag the family out to the fab 5 in Utah this late summer or fall.

This is my favorite vacation spot

I drive 1287 Miles from my driveway, then 15.7 miles by atv, then hike 4.3 miles to get to this rock.

Elevation 8790. In about 20 years, I’ve never seen another person back here (other than those with me), no tv, no cell service, no roads, no atv trails, no trail heads, NOTHING but solitude, beaver in the ponds, trout in the creek, elk and mulies on the hillsides, and an occasional coyote hunting in the meadow. I nearly come to tears when I have to leave

    Places I like:

The mouth of a small river in Alaska in early August when the coho salmon are running.

The highway going up the coast of Oregon.

The north shore highway on Lake Superior.

I’m lucky enough to be a Utah resident. Our summer home is Flaming Gorge.

Our one trip to Boca Grande, Florida was one of our favorite vacations.

Small group self support on the middle fork of the salmon river. It is becoming a yearly thing for us.

Colorado river through the grand canyon was amazing too, but takes tons of planning, work, and time – and a heap of luck to get a permit. Hope to do it at least once again in my life.

In terms of do nothing vacations, I love the ole standby of Cancun all inclusive. It is extra relaxing for me to know that everything has been paid off for months save for some tip money.

    Great thread!

I haven’t done any real serious trips in my lifetime, as compared to some folks, and I have never owned a passport. That said, two places that come to mind are:

North Shore of Lake Superior. The stretch from Two Harbors to Grand Marais is just a wonderful place to visit, even in the winter when a lot of those high-end lakeside resort cabins that you’d normally have to rent by the week for top dollar are available for $100/night.

Wrigley Field, Chicago. I’ve never had a bad baseball vacation to Northside Chicago. Been there at least a dozen times. Last few times, we flew in for about $75-100 per person, stayed at an Air BnB condo or apartment in Wrigleyville for about $150-200/night, bought tickets from scalpers just before the game for face value or a little less, and used the L-trains and Ubers to get around. Prior to that, we used to stay in $75-100/night motels in Skokie or Schaumburg (northern burbs) and take the yellow line L-train into Chicago. I really want to revisit the Purple Pig, one of the best restaurants I’ve been to. There are also numerous great pizza spots in Chicago, or you can settle for a solid $5 slice the size of a hubcap in Wrigleyville. I was planning on doing this trip this season again but that’ll have to wait. It’s extra fun when the Twins visits Wrigley. Ten thousand Twins fans make the trip if it’s on a weekend.

Costa Rica is my favorite spot. The weather, fishing, food, scenery and people are second to none. 50 lb + snook on both coasts. Awesome tarpon fishing on the east side. Great offshore and inshore fishing On the pacific year round. Tuna and sails only a few miles from shore. 50 plus pound roosters and cuberas on poppers seal the deal for me.

I always say that the BWCA or places like it don’t give you time to think about every day things. To me, anywhere you can go to disconnect yourself from normal life out of pure necessity is the best vacation spot.

Grindelwald Switzerland where my great grandpa owned a bakery and my grandpa left to come to the new world. Here grandpa was a baker and cabinet maker working day and night. He used to always talk about his boyhood and experiences as a youth growing up. We have been there several times and it never gets old.

Barbados was easily the best vacation I’ve been on. The locals were beyond friendly, tons of stuff to do from snorkeling, scuba diving, swimming with sea turtles, jet skiing in the ocean, boat tours, excursions around the island, swim up bars, rooftop pool overlooking the entire Sandals resort and ocean, etc.

Barbados locals hang their hats on not being a typical Caribbean island. It’s got a slightly different feel than Jamaica, DR, etc in my opinion.

I’m currently in Montana right now on our first trip to Yellowstone. This place is amazing. I can’t imagine any other place with the scenery and wildlife. Only complaint would be the other people. But if you ever have a chance to see it I would not hesitate. My wife loves the north shore of Lake Superior. She goes there two or three times a year, but after a drive around Yellowstone lake she said she doesn’t know if she’ll go back to the north shore.
