Pig Ate My Pizza is good.

My favorite pizza in town was the pizza upstairs at Surly. Too bad they are closed, I hope they re open. I’ll be first in line for a pie at the bar.

I really like the pizza at Cosettas in downtown St Paul but haven’t been there in a long time. Pinos is near us and makes a good pie. I prefer thick doughy crust with a nice handle.

Give QC Style Pizza in Mahtomedi, MN a try. A friend from High School moved up there and opened this joint. We have a certain style of pizza here that originated here and is spreading. If you do to, ask for Dennis and tell him Rob Groene , pronounced “grow knee” sent you. Ive had it, darned good. He has all sorts of pizzas, amoungst them is his flagship pizza called Kinda Big Dill. Yes, a pickle pizza, this is unique to him as far as I know. They also have a Chicken Wild Rice Pizza that I hear is amazing. Cannot go wrong with sausage, pepperoni, or QC Garbage Pizza basically a Garden/delux. Let me know what you think.

When you hit it right, Pinos is great. But their consistency is bad. Seem every third or so trip they stink it up,

Chicago. Nothing more to say. Period!

I used to agree with that until I ate at pizzeria Regina in the very cool Italian side of Boston. I ate there three times.
I grew up in St. Paul and always loved the original Carbones on Randolph, world class grease! also, coincidentally on Randolph is a great dive bar, Skinners has pizza worth trying. Every bit as good as the original Savoy.

Now living up north, Rockys in Park Rapids is our go to and could hold its own in the cities.

Lots of great pizza’s all over the US. Nothing compares to pizzas in Italy. Venice and Rome were both great but pizza in Florence is even better.

Reds Savoy for thin crust. Carbones is decent at times.
Davannis for Chicago style deep dish.

Border Bar in I-Falls has some really great pizza too.

No offense, but whoever said Domino’s is good pizza needs to look up what “good” means in the dictionary.

    Italy? Not a ‘joint’

No, but it counts. Even in my OP I stated it’s on my bucket list.

Counts just as much (or more) as those who answered with “Chicago”

Thanks for policing the thread though. roll

I am Fairly certain the quote that said Domino’s and pizza ranch were joking. I sure hope they were joking. Not as bad as saying Red Lobster is quality sea food but close. lol

Totally agree on the consistency thing, but when they get it right, it’s amazing. Those guys behind the counter are a riot though. Definitely one of my favorite skyway lunches. The buffalo chicken pizza they do is incredible.

Marnantellis is one of the few places that deliver to my house and for whatever reason I just am not a fan. Maybe its better in the restaurant, but I have lived here for 20 plus years and never once had their pizza and thought it was good. Not sure what the deal is. Heck I would rather have Gary’s Pizza in Sartell and that is bad LOL. House of Pizza is what we usually get for local stuff.
Rafferty’s, Main Street (used to be J’s) in Hutchinson also very good.
My all time favorite it Benson’s in Walker but I havent had that in years.

Pizza Lola is really good. Wood fired pizza.

Old World Pizza in Inver Grove Heights for traditional thin crust.

Haha I never got sick of it, even eating it daily in HS. Now I only get it once or twice a year, if that, passing thru.

    More traditonal Minnesota pizza:
    Pizzeria 201 in Montgomery, MN
Pizza Cellar in Blooming Prairie, MN
    Steve’s Pizza in Austin, MN
    Rafferty’s in Nisswa, MN

I’m partial to traditional pizza – But for artsie fartsie Pizza – Lola is so good. I work in Richfield. Or at least I did before COVID -now working from home. Used to frequent Lola and miss it greatly.

i’m with you on this. back when Brian owned it though it was top notch. after that not so much. seems they dont know what pizza sauce is. i hear there is a different owner now but havent tried it since.

but with any pizza i have always felt that take out/ delivery or buffet style never ever lives up to the quality of a sit down order one in house.

That’s what we keep hearing. Were in there last year for a beer but it wasn’t dinner time. We spoke to the owner about all their weird varieties of pizza. My wife keeps bugging me to eat there so we better make a point to try it this year.

I have never dined in or picked up myself, so I am sure that is a major contributing factor. I will give them another shot and pick up myself because I agree with you delivery never is as good as in restaurant.

Brad, if I remember correctly, the sausage is one big patty correct? Crust looks thick but melts in your mouth

We had the Lou Malnati’s sausage for dinner tonight. The sausage is a big patty on top, great fennel flavor that went well with the rest of the pie. I am sure it is better at the restaurant, will have to take the in-laws there for dinner when we finally resume travelling to Chicago.
