Not going fishing because you just ran over your dog.
He’s alive but the vet says it could go either way. Keep him comfortable this weekend and see which way he decides to go. A prayer or two would be appreciated. Hang in there Dakota.

prayers sent for both of you !!
been there done that once, worse than a kick in the sack.
After lifting his head long enough to say goodbye, Dakota is now pain-free. He passed over the rainbow bridge on the way home in one of his favorite places to be, in the truck with his man.
aw geeze bud,so very sorry, you and EPG are not having a good day at all.
RIP Dakota, may your fields be never ending, the swimming holes never dry,and the angels always at the ready with toys and snacks.
Well this sucks, Im sorry your day was so bad. Keep your good memories close.
I am so sorry.I feel your pain.Prayers to you and the family.Dakota will always be there next to you in the truck.
Boats,
Sorry for your loss. Believe you me, I feel your pain today.
Sorry to hear. Lots of support coming your way from people here as this is definitely a dog-loving community.
Ditto what all the above said. Been in those shoes and it bites the big one!
So sorry for you losing your buddy man.
Hang in there, don’t beat yourself up, and know that Dakota knew it was an accident and he doesn’t blame you at all.
Like my daughter told me –
In his mind he fell down and got hurt real bad and there I was right away to rescue him.
My pup (ok, she’s 8, not really a pup any more) is my first dog. I can’t think about losing her. The room starts to get dusty.
I’m sorry to hear about your loss.
I’m at lost of words right now but be sure to know I am right next to you and understand the pain.
We all are her to stand beside you to give our thanks and love to Dakota.
I’ve got my Al’s collar and tags around the shifter in the vehicle just to say hi to her.
Thanks everybody for the kind words. Can’t sleep, I try to keep myself preoccupied on the web, watching YouTube etc. Every time I put the phone down and close my eyes I see what I first saw, hurting and eventually killing the one that loved me the most. Accident or not, I am responsible.
He was old (13 or so), was just at the vet last week because he was down 20 lbs and was having a very hard time walking and was becoming incontinent. She said keep him comfortable and let him enjoy his summer because his age and size will likely catch up with him soon. I was prepared for him to leave me soon, I just didn’t want him to do so in great pain and scared,at my hand. Losing a dog is hard, I’ve been through it many times, but never under these circumstances.
Stay away from those dark thoughts of guilt serve no purpose. Ya, this is time I’ve been waking up since I lost my Al and takes a while to go back to sleep.
I am sincerely sorry for your loss , do not beat yourself up over it accidents are accidents this is a very tragic one but it is not your fault even though it may seem like it
Be happy for the time you guys spent together. He lived a full and wonderful life..
I’m right there with a lot of guys, accidents happen. I’ve been in your shoes brother…..not an easy thing, but you’re strong enough to handle it. Smile and cry, mourn but don’t linger on the accident.
Remember the good times, and maybe one day you’ll get a new pup that will bring you as much happiness as he did.
Our 12 year old blind yellow lab lingered for 2 months, slowly wasting away from uncontrollable diabetes or which I believe was some vet shot that started her decline. We had to put her down and it was as painful as losing a child after a prolonged fatal illness. I know your pain personally and wouldn’t wish it on anyone.
Never thought we’d get another dog, but the wife needed another to love and spoil so we adopted TWO border collies, though we still maintain our lab’s grave in the backyard and look at her photos from the good life she led from time to time.
Had a similar experience, several years ago now and as has already been said by others,my heart goes out to you.
So sorry Boats. Don’t beat yourself up over this. Easier said than done I know.It was an accident. God bless and from here. Lean on your IDO brothers and sisters for support.
Another best friend joins the great IDO dog park in the sky. Say hi to Tuffy and Athena for me.
Don’t be hard on yourself, it was an accident. Dakota wouldn’t want you to dwell on that, he wants you to think of all the good times. Of that, I AM sure of.
