What's the go-to tiny spinning reel right now?

One of my Pflueger’s gave up the ghost. A now extinct microspin. The best ice fishing reel I have ever used. I have 3 others on rods. What is the best tiny spinning reel out there for my gil rod? I could just find out the current model Pflueger makes but wanted to see what others are using and go with the general consensus. Thanks.

I know you specifically asked about spinning reel, but I bought a Piscifun ICX inline reel and very impressed with it. It is very small compared to black betty freefall, etc. The only downside is it doesnt have drop speed adjustment, but for panfish you shouldnt have any issues. I actually used it for walleyes using rippin raps and such and figured out a method to control the drop to avoid getting a backlash. VERY smooth reel!

hmmmm. I thought about that style but was afraid they would be too heavy.

That particular one is very light. Cannot say how it compares to the spinning reel you are talking about, but its the lightest ice fishing reel I have by a longshot. I dont target panfish other than perch too often, but I am very impressed by it. Its 5.4 ounces and I looked up the microspin and it says its 6 ounces.

Okuma Ceymar. I only have one so far, bought it at TUCR last year. They had a good price on it and recommended it. So far I am happy with it.

I am on my second season of fishing the Ceymar reels and so far am really happy with them. Like I do on most reels I ice fish with I removed the factory grease it came with and replaced it with Hot sauce Grease on the 1st one I purchased. On the next one I purchased I did not and found that it works ALMOST as well in the cold with the factory Grease. I say almost because on the coldest days I fished this season it was a little more stiff than the one with the hot sauce, but still functional. They both also saw summer action last summer and worked real well on my UL’s as well.

I got some piscifun icx inlines this year and also a couple ceymar c10’s and I like them both. However, I found the lower gear ratio on the inlines to be a bit disadvantageous.

scheels online was the only place i was able to find the ceymars in stock.

Giving the Ceymar C10 a shot. Ordered from Scheels. I can always swap it with one of my perch/crappie rods if its too big for my Gil rod. I still have a couple Microspins on those that are like new.

I’ve got ceymar, pflueger, tica and siennas. My number 1 is the sienna followed closely by the ceymar…..pflueger being a distant 3rd. I see no reason to go with anything but siennas from now on seeing as they are also the cheapest.

Damn. I had the sienna queued up first but then swung towards to ceymar. I could have saved money going with that. Next time. Thanks for the comparison info. That is VERY helpful.

Siennas are still king for me. The price point and quality you get for said price point, not to mention upgrading the drag washer, it’s tough to beat. My close second is the Daiwa QZ. Have been using that one for a full season now.

I use all Sienna and Ceymar’s on everything. Ceymar has a little better drag in my opinion. Think they are about equal but the Sienna is less money.

I’m sure for many of you here this reel doesn’t even belong in the conversation but thought I’d throw it out here.

I picked the new Clam Voltage spinning reel to start the season for an ultra light panfish noodle rod and so far have been impressed.

Not sure it qualifies as a “micro” but is a bit smaller than the Sienna and Okuma I also have. Both of those are fine, no complaints but the Voltage is half the cost.

It has a composite housing as opposed to metal with an aluminum spool, so it’s lighter than the Sienna and Okuma’s.

Perhaps the nicest feature is the one touch button to collapse the handle should you need to fit in your rod case.

As far as how well it holds up…TBD.

I have a single Ceymar in my arsenal and I like siennas much better.
I have 6 siennas and if you can find them they are hard to beat.

If you want to try a Ceymar I have one I
Would sell you for a break over new.

A fella in the classified as some Daiwa reels for $25 bucks they are decent reels as well.

Put a carbontex washer in it. The felt washers are more prone to getting water in them and they have grease that freezes in them.

These are all I use as well, if you wait a few weeks you’ll start to see them get heavily discounted online…

What?! I have never seen a spinning reel that didnt collapse. Absolute necessity for my rod case. Do they break down at all?

They all break down, just some have a nice button that releases it instead of unscrewing it.

    Great reel for the money

Gander still has their sale on Trion 20’s – great price and an excellent budget reel

Keep in mind the smallest okuma is similar in size to a 25 pflueger. I have an okuma stratus v which is the same as a cemar – it is an ok reel if you get it on sale.

The diawa qz 750 is also a very, very nice reel https://daiwa.us/collections/reels/products/qz-750

Yeah that is a really slick feature on the clam handles. Push a button and it hinges in. No unscrewing required.

I got my ceymar today. One day delivery from Scheels! It’s larger than I expected. More so than my old microspin but smooth as glass and feels of quality. I may swap it with a larger rod with a microspin since the ms fits my 24″ rod better but I plan to try it first. Thanks for all the good info guys.

Sorry suzuki they fold up you just have to loosen up the thumb screw on the side plate.I have a couple of JM and Genz reels and it’s push the button and fold the handle up.Love that feature

I love my ceymar 10 so far! The price point is a bit stiff but the drag is smooth and it has a little more polish. Haven’t done an inadvertent dunk test on it to see how it performs but so far so good.

I own many of the “old style” siennas in purple in green before they changed the design. They are bullet proof and you can’t beat the price point.

I shyed away from the siennas after the went to the single bearing. However I noticed that they redesigned with a red and black color pattern with 3+1 bearings like the ones I know and love.

Anyone have experience on the “new” red and black siennas? Are they as good as the old ones?
