I put the Okuma Ceymar C10 on two of my panfish rods early last year and I have NO Complaints at all !!!

I tend to run into pesky LM Bass while searching out panfish on the back waters of the Mississippi River and the drag system has not failed me !!

This forum is hurting my pocketbook. I just grabbed two C10s…couldn’t pass them up at that price. Basically got two for what I paid for my last one. Guess I need to order that Bullwhip now and then I’ll have a spare. doah

I remember a few back, people raving about the “Black Betty” ice reel. Anybody try/own them ? Haven’t seen or heard a thing about them in years.

I love my Black Betty 6061. They seem to change every year and at the end of the year you can get them for about $35-$40 like Jamin said. I have 4 of them on different Thorne Brothers rods (Am I allowed to say Thorne Brothers and not TUCR shock ). I have been using them for 5 years now. They have no line twist and drop light lures like a rock. Controlling the drop rate with my pinkie, I have been getting 2 to my buddies 1 when in a school. If I am putting a jig down that is an 1/8 oz or lighter I will be using the 6061. Some of my buddies hate the 6061. I just picked up an Okuma Baitfeeder that I am excited to try out. As far as my other spinning reels I use, I can’t tell you what I like best.

So if I am looking at 80-100 feet of water, fishing for 1-2 lb fish then what reel? I’m thinking of using 3# line. Any suggestions that would be a good 3# line, that would be no stretch? looking to get deep quick and not have a lot of memory. Fishing outside also. Thanks.

I have three TUCR and all have the sienna on them. As everyone has said they are great reels for the money. I have not had issues with the drags. Good luck with the new rod you will not be disappointed.

Love the Ceymar C10s. Have a new one sitting and waiting for my new TUCR I bought one last year, and for the price can’t see myself going to anything else any time soon. Might try a inline reel on a rod this year though just to see what the hype is about.

Is the ceymar reel handle interchangeable for left or right hand reeling? Thanks.

I bought the black betty freefall last year and love in on my 32″ Precision. Now just to decide whether I want the ghost or the original to put on my new fusion!

I have Siennas and I have Presidents. I much prefer the President. First, it’s braid ready, which is a huge plus (no more backing). Second, I had a few issues with the bail on the Siennas closing but not catching the line in the right spot, then when I go to pull drag, I have snapped the line. Never had that issue with the President.

It was a deal WestMarine was running the past few days. I see they now jacked the price back up…probably because they sold more in the past few days than the past 6mo. grin

I believe that sale price was through 23rd, October.

Best price I’m seeing now is $39 through Amazon. Still a very good price… $22/reel was a steal! Doubt we’ll see that again any time soon.

I upgraded all of my Sienna’s to the Carbontex drag washers. Do the Ceymars need to be uprgraded, as well? Or do they seem to perform just fine in the cold with the stock drag system? Some of my Sienna’s are due to be replaced and I was thinking of picking up a few of the Ceymars…

Presidents, Trions, or the President XT – all get my vote. I tare them down each year (some pull double duty), clean them up and lube everything. You can polish the drag steels to a mirror shine and really smooth out the drag on any reel.

    Mat,

What do you use to polish up your washers?

How you do that ? Did you just use a polish like Brasso ? That does look smooth and cool !

Has anyone had issues with the 13 wicked ice reels? I got one last season and it seems to stick in a couple spots when reeling in. I went back to gander and switched it out and the new one had the same problem. Does it just need to be taken apart and cleaned?

I’ll sand them with 400 and 800 grit then polish to a mirror shine with a micro polishing wheel on a tiny very old bench grinder I have – usually use a very light polishing compound. It doesn’t take very long at all and makes the drag extremely smooth if you use a quality synthetic reel oil

I have a supreme xt and I can tweak my trions to be just as tight feeling and smooth as it with very little work – lube where needed, rework the drag and add a few shims here and there

I’ve never heard of doing this before, and I can’t say I’ve ever seen a reel with those polished. Is that just because it’s extra manufacturing work? Or maybe I just buy too cheap of reels :).

I’m not doubting you at all, I actually want to try this but I’m surprised it hasn’t come up before!

I’ve had a couple reels that include a chrome plated top steel but raw 2nd and 3rd steels – the smoother the finish is on the steels the less break away resistance they’ll have – smoother and more consistent drag. There’s a lot of little tricks to making spinning reels work better

Care to share some of your secrets? I’d love to get more performance out of my reels. My perch reels are Trions and i have President reels for my walleye rods
