Ive only kept and ate the heart once and thought it was the best venny I ever had. Dont know why I dont keep. Did keep the one from my dads deer but my daughter wanted to practice being a vet. Told her vets fix animals and not just dissect their heart.

See what you mean about pictures not working. Tried twice and just disappears.

I started keeping the heart about 10-12yrs ago. We’d had a potluck at work and the theme was “bring something you like that other people think is weird”. We had grilled beef heart, slow cooked pork tongue, blood sausage, chicken feet, smoked suckers, and many different pickled things. Not everything was good, but it was fun to try it all. I liked the beef heart the best, so I figured deer heart was worth a try. I usually share it with someone and most of them didn’t care for the texture. The chicken feet were really tasty too, but it took some practice to navigate the tiny bones.

I just picked up 20lbs of crab legs

20 pounds? Holy moly, I just bought 3 pounds and that seemed like a lot for 2 people lol

I’ll be making mine on Saturday with a prime rib roast. Surf n turf

They were on sale for 8 bucks a pound so I buy then by the 20 pound box they come in, instead of breaking the box open and taking half. Just the lady and I went through 6 pounds on x Mas. So I figured 20 will be plenty for 4 of us. The damn kid at 12 is now 6ft1 195 pounds. He eats 10 pounds alone lol

That was me at 12 too. I don’t know how my dad fed all four kids and our stay at home mom as well as he did. It definitely wasn’t crab legs, but we always had something nicer on special occasions.

He can eat me out of house and home for sure. I can’t splurge on these meals to often. I’d be bankrupt in a month. He does eat like a horse though. I told him he’s lucky he keeps getting taller and not wider.

This kid is a vacuum. He will finish all of our plates if we don’t. I used to be good with 2 deer a year for me, now I have to make sure he gets his 2 as well or our venison will be gone in 2 weeks.

Just seasoned one side with SPG and tossed it all into a quart bag. Wasn’t hungry last night so I let it go about 32hrs in the fridge. I flipped it 5-6 times since yesterday, patted it dry, and seared it on each side about 2min in wagyu beef tallow. It was so tender and flavorful. This is the leftovers for breakfast tacos in the morning.

Home-made Hot & Sour soup tonight. Pretty easy and turned out WAY better that expected! Just as good, if not better, than any take-out I’ve had.
