With My South Dakota goose season opening in less than a week the hunting itch is widespread. Trail Cameras have been out for a few weeks with some more evening drive time being put in scouting bucks. The dog is also getting more conditioning work with my first pheasant clients in roughly 6 weeks. Deer tags have all came in the mail and dreams of heavy racked deer fill my head. Cannot forget fall mallards and the October walleyes. Hope everyone is having as much fun preparing there gear and mind for the season ahead. Stay safe fellas – QB

I will be spending every spare second on the Des Moines river hunting for that 30″ fish!

There is NEVER enough time in the fall to do everything I want. The best I can do is enjoy the crazy ride. Mostly Grouse and Pheasant with gun deer mixed in.
Just being out in it with my wife is nice too. Some quading, some fishing, etc. Anything but inside. I may try western big game next year.

I would like to have a full year of Octobers. No month is better for the outdoors. The combination of preparing for some hunting while hunting other species. The anticipation, the weather, the beauty of the countryside everywhere. The hurry-hurry the harvesting and the getting ready for things to come.

    Hemingway said it all:

Best of all he loved the fall
The leaves yellow on the cottonwoods
Leaves floating on the trout streams
    And above the hills
    The high blue windless skies
Now he will be a part of them forever.

Our antlered friends have a tight grip on me! I’m sure I’ll get up to Lake Superior with James a few times chasing Lakers, and hopefully a trip to my old stomping grounds in NoDak to hunt a few ducks.

Fishing stops for me when it’s bird season…in fact, it stops a bit earlier than that as I start getting my dogs tuned back up and into top shape. I don’t hunt waterfowl but am pretty crazy about grouse and woodcock. Ice fishing doesn’t usually start for me until our second season ends or the snow keeps me and the mutts out of the woods.
