Since a lot of us have sketchy ice so far, what spud bar do most of you use and what length do you like?
I’m 6’4″ so probably need a longer one

Ha ha, at your size I bet everyone just lets you go first. Just make sure what ever you buy has a good wrist strap.

Is the $20 Eskimo Redneck sufficient?

Lol! Thus the reason for the spud bar I guess!

Don’t get the green one. Not sure what brand it is, but there’s a green spud bar that has a threaded midsection to make it more portable when you’re not using it. I’ve seen the rings come out on these and then you only have half a spud bar.

The big yellow frabil one is way too heavy.

The best one I ever had I bought at a baitshop in lacrosse. It had a baseball bat for a handle. Lost it in the snow and haven’t seen one like it since.

With your height I would get the big Eskimo, (CH11). It is fairly heavy, but works better.

Or the two piece CH12. I went with the two piece.

If you are looking for something basic and inexpensive, Fleet Farm sells a 1 piece for under $20 and it gets the job done just fine. For me, I use it for maybe a week out of the year, so there is no reason to buy an expensive unit. Now this year, it has seen a little more use… I like to carry these over hand augers for early ice.
