But they’re fishing to survive Mark…..The casinos only take in a couple dollars a day, barely enough for a meal.

    Have a little compassion please.

As I mentioned on the FB group, hiring enough CO’s to enforce the laws and regs so they are actually effective.

Oh, and year round C&R for Largemouth…… mrgreen

AND I really do think it would be cool to try and stock Lake Elmo with Lake Trout.

    Lower bluegill and crappie limits.

Limit the Tribal harvest to hook and line.

Limit Mille Lac smallmouth to strict catch and release.

Spend less on the lost cause of invasive species prevention and use that money for fish stocking.

Limit wake-boats to the center of large lakes, and actually enforce it.

Invest a lot more in musky studies and stocking.

More public swimming beaches and fishing platforms for those who don’t have boats.

Open up the ‘off-seasons’ and make them catch and release seasons.

Good luck if you believe the DNR has any say in anything tribal.

I would also like to see more CO’s hired. I have not been checked in years and I think non compliance is a major problem.

Yes, amazing there are still some who believe that the MN DNR could shut down tribal netting if they just wanted to. Also love the ones who still think it was the DNR who “allowed” tribal netting in the first place.

    More enforcement!

    Smaller bag limits

Catch and release during the closed seasons

More catch and release bodies of water around the state (like pool 2)

Open all lakes to “no restrictions or limits”…let’s see how the general public responds. It would be very interesting to see if we could self regulate.

Lower limits for most things. Definitely walleye and crappie.

    I’d prefer DNR

NOT query the public regarding how to manage any fishery in particular or in general.

But, that’s how they’ve been trending lately, too late.

Due to folks making these broad strokes:

Lower limits for most things. Definitely walleye and crappie.

More enforcement of water toy BS. Jet skis close to shore etc.
    Lower limits across the board.
And yeah, a little more science based decisions on lake issues.

Why do you want to pull the bass off the beds at spawning?

Lower all fish limits, install a slot limit on sunfish, a minimum size on crappie and enforce wake boat use to water over 20 feet deep and 500 feet from shore.

    Like others have mentioned…

    More enforcement officers.

    Lower bag limits.

More voluntary catch and release by anglers.

Smaller waves generated by tuna, wake, and other similar watercraft.

Increase walleye possession limit. A two limit possession limit would be great.

Sunfish 5” or less for bait.

    Two lines on inland rivers.

Designate the Mississippi between Prescot to lock and dam #2 as border waters.

After watching the North dakota perch show, and the use of DNR lake data to decide wich lake to fish, our DNR needs to do their lake assesments more often.
I don’t see how lake data from 10 or 12 years ago is relevent from lakes with a lot of fishing pressure.

There’s probably several reasons for this. We have a lot more lakes, we have more anglers, thus, we have a lot more angling pressure. I would agree though, a lake assessment every few years at minimum would be nice.

More funds directed towards enforcing current laws, especially possession limits and being responsible for your wake

Regulations regarding ballasts on boats used for surfing and wakeboarding (in the world of racing to go bigger with everything, something is going to have to happen)

Slightly reduced limits across the board for most species

I’d like to see more regulation of boat operators. There should be some sort of licensing. It’s dangerous and crazy.

    2 things –

    2 Lines in the summer.

Triple or quadruple the price of licenses and hire more CO’s.

Totally agree. Even for my tin can, the license price is way too low. Unless it went up last year, I recall it’s less than $50 for 3 years. That price can’t even be keeping up with inflation.

Also, come on. We’ve got lakes full of bazillion dollar wakeboard machines and bass boats and these guys are paying the same to license those things as I am to license my little 17-foot tin can? This is Taxesota! How can we not ALREADY have a luxury boat tax?

I’d agree boat license could be raised. I disagree with the fishing license. Keep fishing affordable, if you are successful enough to have a boat then you can pay a bit more.

You need to be careful where these additional funds would go. Anything that goes into the general fund of the DNR is loss forever.

How about this…….The Sams Lessard fund is chalk full of cash. How about using $10 million per year on CO’s? We are 100% short of CO’s.

I dunno because I don’t know the license breakdown geographics. But I will go out on a line and say the majority of license owners go easily crank out $100 a year to fish MN.

Yes, but that is the way Government works. Hopefully they can earmark the $$ where they were intended to go. I know, I know, I know that’s pretty much wishful thinking.
