In regard to this whole Covid 19 situation, What will it take for the federal and state Governments to remove the current restriction in place. I’m not talking about things that people can do like social distancing and staying home. I’m more talking what outcome from those things need to be meet to have things returned to pre- virus status. From most of my research it looks like a vaccine for it is at least a year away, if not more. As far at flatting the curve goes, what level of flatness is necessary to remove the current restriction? Is there a point where they will consider the # of new cases or Deaths acceptable? There is no place that I’ve seen what point they are trying to get us to. From my research it looks like they are not sure if after getting and recovering from it that you are any more immune to it than before. I’m just not sure what point or level we are aiming for?

At this point they are just trying to delay the peak until we can have temporary hospital beds and infrastructure and ppe to handle the peak, if people can get treatment when they need it, that can save lives. Everything is a bit gray right now on when the peak will hit us, Wisconsin will probably hit first. Next thing is figuring out antibodies and if that does help with immunity for now or next flu season.

I think it’s going to be awhile. It will run its course through the country long before we have a vaccine I believe. While it would be nice to have one in a year, I won’t be running to get a vaccine that has been pushed through without all the correct testing being done. I don’t believe there are enough recovery cases to really get a feel for if a person who has been exposed is less likely to get it again.
April 1, 2020 at 7:12 pm #1929841The numbers go up fast every day, two weeks is so unrealistic. Listen to the doctors and the experts, not the politicians.
Brad DimondPosts: 1452April 1, 2020 at 7:26 pm #1929843I don’t think things “…will return to pre-virus status.” Over time a new equilibrium will be reached, one that will shift over time as vaccinations become available, treatment regimes evolve and subsequent waves of infection follow on. It’s not all bleak but it will take months to ride out the current situation.
April 1, 2020 at 7:27 pm #1929844Are you referring to just MN or the entire country as a whole? Governor Walz has already outlined his 3 phases of mitigation for MN. That may change but it appears phase 1 is working because overall traffic is down over 75% the past 12 days.
Large social events won’t be the same for quite a while I’m afraid. I think it may suppress some in the warmer summer months but round 2 will re-appear next winter. The end game is a mass produced, effective, safe vaccine.
April 1, 2020 at 7:43 pm #1929851The main things I’m talking about returning to normal is:
Non essential workers ( if there are any ) returning to work
Borders between US and Canada being back opened
Sit down Restaurants, Bars, etc. back open to businessApril 1, 2020 at 7:51 pm #1929853From my research it looks like they are not sure if after getting and recovering from it that you are any more immune to it than before. I’m just not sure what point or level we are aiming for?
Why waste time doing your own research.
Just ask the old bag with the crystal ball….

April 1, 2020 at 8:04 pm #1929856It’s all speculation at this point. Everyone from the guys commenting on a fishing forum on up to the POTUS cannot establish a guaranteed timeline for this. Anyone who can is guessing.
My best guess is that it’s going to be quite a while for businesses that are based on social gatherings (bars, restaurants, music venues, etc). Even if people do a decent job with the social distancing guidelines and eliminating travel, there are just so many unknowns. The flattening of the curve does save lives, but it is also going to significantly prolong the economic impacts of this. I think it’s very very optimistic to think you could legally have a beer at a bar or restaurant in MN before Memorial Day at this point.
April 1, 2020 at 8:06 pm #1929857Fishthumper, this website shows Covid 19 projections. You can look at the US as a whole or by individual state. Lots of info you may be asking about. https://covid19.healthdata.org/projections?fbclid=IwAR2ZBsC5rRkKuHFz2TAR4bRzbI5l7IFO47Z9HIaKSQqGyhcAh8maCvMXHOI
April 1, 2020 at 8:21 pm #1929864I think they should lock the whole country down until May 1st.
If you aren’t making, selling or hauling for the food, medical or energy sectors you should be shut down and told to stay home.
Harsh I know, but this thing is barely getting started.

If bars and Restaurants are closed till Memorial Day. There May be a lot of them that may not survive to reopen.

I don’t want socialism. Bigger government isn’t the answer.
I’m starting to think it’s all a scam. This whole shutting down of our economy is going to cause more suicides (of healthy Americans) than this Chinese virus will claim.
It wreaks of political sabotage, too much hype for very little climax.
I hope I’m wrong but this stinks of politics!

[/quote]New York has a hot zone for some reason but why hasn’t California or the other 48 states had such a concentrated rate? I hope I’m wrong.

I couldn’t agree more! We haven’t seen anything yet, I hope I’m wrong, but I don’t think so, lots of people I know aren’t buying in and going about there daily business, which I get to a point.but it’s gonna get ugly, and then lots will be up in arms.

I don’t think the Virus is a Scam. But I do think that our Government is using it as a large Social Experiment to see how far they can push people before they start to push back. I’m starting to think that our population is a lot more like a herd of sheep rather than the free roaming wild mustangs they once were.

I would agree but why would the whole world ruin there economies over usa politics? This virus is the real deal.
I hope that when the virus settles and is the thing of past, that its not a democrat/republican thing.where people are like he believed in the “virus” etc….bad enough with normal politics!April 1, 2020 at 10:58 pm #1929942I’m gonna say it! Better check your numbers. We’re already at 4,700 dead and it hasn’t even gotten bad yet.
April 1, 2020 at 11:07 pm #1929943The day will come when potus stands in front of cameras in as emergency room with a banner behind him and tares his surgical mask off and says I told you so. Add 6 months to that more if people won’t fallow suggested precautions and safety measures for our neighbors today.
Yep, it’s an experiment. Rather an ingenious plan to have people drown in their own bodily fluids till dead to keep the sheep in line.
RipjiggenPosts: 11586April 1, 2020 at 11:17 pm #1929944I am not going to do the numbers because it’s too late tonight but here is numbers from 21 days ago March 13. Here is the numbers from today. Not a good trend in the US. Sorry first two are the same March 13.

If the stats don’t wow me, it’s because this virus is a dud.
