What we do to keep fishing …

I guess I had a pretty good case of “Rapala Wrist” and just had surgery to remove a bone from my right hand. It had been barking for a couple years and 3 Cortisone shots. I had a pea-sized bone (no, not my brain ;) removed and have been told it is a non-essential bone that should allow me to return to full motion and strength. Hard to believe, but I will remain optimistic for a full recovery.

You can see from the picture another longer scar from Carpal Tunnel surgery years back. So, let’s hope I’m fixed now and can return to my favorite sport in the spring. I have a tentative trip planned to Table Rock in March )

I have been told I may be in for the carpal tunnell surgery also.Did it take you long to recover and get back to fishing?I habe been tossing around getting it done now as Im laid off work, however my main concern is getting back to fishing by at least springtime.

Carpal tunnel was awhile back and the recovery was fairly easy…there is no bone/ligament cutting. Best to do it now and be ready for spring )

Having a bone chopped out will take a little longer..

I see your carpal tunnel scar is fairly long. had both my wrists done years ago. they did it what they call an endoscopy procedure about an inch slit just beyond the palm of the hand. I was technequially off work for about 6 weeks where I couldn’t do much. it takes a good 6-8 months to get completely over it but if you do it now you should be good by spring casting!!!!!

The bone I had removed was the “pisiform” bone. Anyone had that surgery before? Very curious total recovery process and if strength/flexibility return – 80%, 100%, …or other (gulp!)?

For those of you that are baseball fans – the #1 minor league prospect in all of baseball is a guy by the name of Byron Buxton (plays for the Twins). This is the same bone he hurt last year and there was talk of surgery but he didn’t have it done (at least yet).

I’d like to learn more, I hear its not that unusual of a surgery. Anyone?

carpal tunnel is a easy thing to have done I went in on a Mon. had the left one done went back a week later took the stitches out and did the right wrist went back a week later took them out and back to work the following Mon. once the surgery is done and stitches out can’t do any damage just have to find your comfort level.

Thanks, my carpal tunnel surgery was on both wrists 30 years ago and healed quite nicely. Wondering if anyone has had their pisiform removed?
