My BIL has a Marcum m5. I think they are junk and want nothing to do with them. We fish side by side in the same shack & I want to get a vexilar that won’t get drowned out by the high output m5. Anyone of you that have first hand recommendations? I had an m5 myself and it was garbage. Marcum customer service was absent. I took the unit back and still never even got a call from marcum after leaving a message with their Mickey Mouse voicemail tech support.

The newer flx Vex units have awesome IR. I’ve fished with many flavors of marcums, 6+ at a time in a big shack with no problems, clear as a bell.

I have a lx 3 and 5. I know it’s not a m series. But my buddy I fish with daily has the flx 28 and we never have issues.

From my direct experience and posts on the interweb, marcum has always provided a fairly high level of needed customer service. Maybe give it another shot?

I’d like to hear specific details of your m5 hate. I sometimes still think I need one; I’d like to believe it would be a more reliable and viewable update to the lx5. If it could fish over 160′ I would probably have one now.

I would argue that I get more interference with my marcum and humminbird FROM vexilars than the other way around tbh. Frankly most times any of the new vexilars and marcums work just fine together. Not sure what the hate is about though?

When I bought my M5 a year ago, I had an FL-8 as well. Had to hit the IR on the vex, and if shallow, occasionally on the M5 if they were side by side. Last week we had a Helix 5, M5, old FL-18, and a gen 2 showdown all running in a 24′ wheel house. I think everybody had to hit their IR buttons. The FL-18 fared the worst, with constant flickering around the screen even after hitting the IR.

It is your $500. I wouldn’t take one for free. All I will say.

Why won’t you explain what you don’t like so others can be informed before they purchase instead of vague comments?

Call marcum customer service and see how long it takes to get a call back. You don’t have to be an owner to do this simple test. Their customer service in my experience is horrid. When I have a problem I want to reach a live human and get customer service or tech support to work thru the issue in real time and if that don’t fix the issue, I expect escalation to resolve the issue. I couldn’t even get a call back. After a week I gave up. Their answering service specifically says we’ll call you & don’t leave more than one message for us. That is as bad as it gets. I can’t think of any other company who handles customer service in this manner.

Maybe it has changed, but I have personally had great customer service with Marcum when I have needed something. Did you try contacting them in any other way? I hope your new unit works great!

Their phone support sucks but if you Facebook them or email they get right back. It’s 2019 no one talks on the phone anymore LOL

I thought Marcum’s service was quite good, which was nice because I needed a lot of it!!

I’ve never had an issue with my 28 and a Marcum. The 28 can create some nasty noise with most birds though. But a few clicks of the IR and it’s good.

To be honest, I’ve had more trouble dealing with my “Proview” transducer. I finally figured out why it’s called a “proview”. You need to be a pro in order to dial it in while in any water under 30’…But no worries, Vexilar says they’re the greatest thing since sliced bread…

No issues with customer service from marcum. Not sure what your issues were but nothing but stellar service. Every company makes good units these days also all have problems and all have customer service issues. Sorry you had a bad experience but I think you will find more with excellent service.

I know hummingbird was automated customer service to begin the call when I called in last year…I think that’s standard operating procedure these days. I love my m3 and lx7…I’ll gladly take a free m5 too need one more flasher for the kids.
