I would like to protect about 3’of gunwale on each side of my 2018 Impact 1875 from scratches caused by the landing net while landing fish. Anyone have an idea what material I could fasten to the top surface of the gunwale? The ideal material would be durable and blend in without being too ugly. My boat is black with a grey gunwale.

How are you landing fish that they’re beating up your gunwales that bad?

They make a clear “sticker” that is used on automotive applications to prevent rock chips around fenders and front of the hood.
    Automotive protective film.

I would think most Auto parts places would have APF also.

Treat the net instead of the boat , it is much easier. I use a foam pipe insulation on the handle of the net ,attach it with a few tie wrappers and tape . As an added bonus your net now will float when it goes overboard .

I use 3M PRO series paint protection film on my gunwales of my 2018 impact 1775. Very happy so far with the result, although they won’t warrant a marine application even if it’s above water line.

That’s a great idea! I use the film to protect from sand and grit on people’s shoes, but I might just do that to my net to keep it floating )

It’s too bad that someone didn’t use some kind of LineX bed liner in colors and spray something on the side say 2 ft down to do exactly what we need to protect the sides. I’m sure with different colors and artistic ability they can make it look great.

So far I treated the net as cheers recommended except I used split plastic wire loom on the hoop and sprayed the handle with plasti dip. That will probably satisfy my need but may in future use clear film or plasti dip on the gunnel. I like that either could be peeled off later if desired.
