What to set drag at?

So, for trophy flathead catfish, ive settled on the shimano spheros 10000, 80 lb power pro green, and a st croix muskie rod. Max drag on the reel is 27 lbs which is 1/3 the pound test of the line. Should i just tighten the drag all the way?

1 more question: i plan to use drop shot rig with a 2 oz disk sinker on a snap swivel (in case i need to change sinker size) at the end of the line. Then maybe 12″ up a dropper loop maybe 10″ long with a 5/0 kahle hook and a small bluegill or medium sized green sunfish.

Should i slice the bait fish a bit to make em bleed? I know that helps for channels but what about flatheads?

Fish your bait live, or cut. Each has time and place.

When you set the hook, drag should be tight enough to sink the hook, May need to be tighter to pull fish from snag. You may choose you fish with clicker on, personal preference.

Good luck learning to catch flatheads. They are fun and challenging.
