What to gift

Young fella that’s been working for me is heading off to marine boot camp next month. He’s a good kid and want to get em something to bring or enjoy in the time here before he gets his a$$ kicked for 5 weeks or so.

San Diego would warrant maybe some nice sunglasses? GNC gift card for some protein? Then I thought maybe a gift certificate to a strip club?

    Thoughts? wave

Plenty of onlyfans accounts to gift him in case he can’t get to the champagne room!

Marine Corp Boot camp is 24/7 non stop, no time off, no breaks, no leaving camp. You do not get to bring anything with you. You are stripped naked on arrival and any possessions you have with you are stored until you graduate.

Get him a gift cert here for a good steak or something like that before he leaves.

When you are in boot camp, the best thing you can get is a letter from home or a friend.

Props to you for getting him something, If you get him sunglasses make sure they are military spec so he can use them, they have to be all black, no chrome, no mirrored lenses etc…… Several brands such as Oakley make military spec glasses.

Jon J nailed it. You can’t bring anything with you to boot camp.

He is under the impression you can bring shoes. Good idea if it’s possible.

    Might compliment a nice dinner.

Even if you can, don’t. Believe me, you don’t want to be the guy who is different, better off or otherwise. You want to be just like everyone else there. Blistered feet due to crappy fitting, military issued shoes.

Wow. Did some googling. Seems “less is more” with the Marine Corps, and they severely limit what recruits can bring to boot camp. I had no idea and it’s interesting to learn. Can’t think of the last time I went anywhere without chapstick and my knives. I think the idea of a nice dinner sounds good. And as Luttes said, be sure to give him a huge thank you for his service!

Hey Beads. Google “Marine Corp Gift Shop”. Tons of logo’ed USMC gear for when he graduates.

My best friend was in the Corp for 10 years and when he left for bootcamp he didn’t bring anything with really. As others have said if you stick out that’s a good way to get picked on by DI’s. Get him something before he leaves or when he’s off to his MOS. From what my buddy said San Diego isn’t as much of an “experience” as Paris island after he went there.

When our daughter was in boot camp she said that the only thing that she could see off base from the exercise yard was the golden arches. She said that was all she dreamed about and the first place that she wanted to go when she could go off base. We all laughed hard about that.

Wish him well and I’m sure he will appreciate whatever you get him.

You could give him some of your fishing tips. Kinda like getting coal in your stocking though…..

I’d agree on the nice dinner before he goes. When my buddies went they didn’t bring anything with them.

I like the nice meal idea, maybe he’s got a “plus one” he could take. Simple way for him to enjoy a restaurant he might not normally go to, and that would maybe leave a good “thank you” impression for what he’s about to do.

    Yep, non-sanctioned.

Imo a nice dinner sounds pretty good. Mancinis in St. Paul is good choice as well. Maybe include the cost of a Uber? One less thing to worry about.🤔

I know not everyone on this site lives anywhere near everyone else but if possible to make this a good occasion I’d chip in. I don’t even know the guy but I’ve been in his situation so I know it well. I spent my entire childhood dreaming of being in the army like some dream of winning the Super Bowl. It’s such an exciting yet anxious time. Military service just isn’t talked about as much nowadays so it’s awesome to see young folks stepping up and serving their country.

Get him something he can use before or after bootcamp, like jon said. , there is no downtime for 12 weeks . No need for any sunglasses or other creature comforts , they will take them and provide you with everything they want you to have . Its a proud moment when you make it through to graduation day though. Best of luck to him

Happy to report he made it through, and from what I gathered with little to no negative paperwork lol. Still not sure what all that entails but he’s coming back to work for a short while until he figures out his full path.

Funny thing his buddy who I got to know a lil bit as well joined two weeks after him and is currently finishing his job training in Texas.

Couple young good dudes, very happy to see them both succeeding.
