What time of day is the best for salmon and trout fishing in Two Harbors?

Greeting everyone, today I came back to Duluth and went to the break wall at Two Harbors for salmons. My brother and I and some anglers there saw a big school of fish (I don’t know if they are trout or salmon) with the blue color on the back and they are afraid of human. Everytime they see us, they swim away or deep down the bottom. I used the lure for Salmons and Trout but they don’t bite really well, while my brother use a heavy lure and jigging along the wall, there was something bited but not really agressive. Then I changed my lure into a diving crank bait with two fake eggs on the hook, there was a decent one followed my bait and tried to bite it until it saw me, it swam away immediately and never return. We fished at around 2:00 p.m to 4:00p.m with the sun on our head and as you know, the water is really clear. So I just wondering does anyone have any advice about the time and the bait, as well as any tips that work for us? Because I asked the bait shop owner at Two Harbors (I don’t remember the shop’s name but it in side an auto repair workshop’s yard) and they gave us nothing beside the fake eggs. I’m looking forward to hearing from everyone soon. Thank you, and keep your fish on the hook everytime you fish.

Sorry no buddy gave you and answer. I would assume Little Cleo and Crocodile Spoons would work and they cast a long ways. I’ve caught trout and salmon in Lake Michigan on Glow Rattle Traps and Bomber Long A’s but probably any stick/jerk bait might work. Dawn and Dusk are prime times, also after dark.

I was away when this got posted and missed it otherwise I’d have responded.

The trout season was closed after Oct. 9th until some time in January so only the loopers and salmon were legal catches. What you were seeing were schools of either whitefish or herring, both come in and hang out in the water near the breakwater. 1/4 ounce Kastmasters in gold/orange, blue/silver and green/silver or the Little Cleos in 2/5 ounce size in those colors or 1/4 ounce to 3/8 ounce Krokadile Lures in those colors will catch both the salmons/loopers and the whitefish/herring. Heavy spinners [long cast varieties in the above colors will also catch these fish in sizes 2 and 3, maybe a size 4.
