Looking to get my first bow mount trolling motor.
I have a 1985 Starcraft Tiller boat with a 40HP Johnson 2 stroke
I would guess maybe 1,700 pounds loaded with 3 people.
What size Minn Kota Terrova motor should I go with??

I think you would be fine with 55. I have an 80 on a 22′ tritoon. It is much heavier (I would guess with 3 people I am 2x your weight) than your boat and the sides of the pontoon make it fight the wind. But the 80 does fine.
24v. 65lb. thrust would feel very powerful in that boat. If you can afford the weight of 2 batteries than go for it.
I think 95% of the time you would be fine with a 55lb. thrust
If you fish any rivers and have room for two batteries go with an 80.
