What size trolling motor for Mississippi river

I am looking at buying a trolling motor to mount on my 16′ Alumacraft Ltd. I am just curious on what I will need to get to be able to sit in the current when fishing wing dams. I realize there are some variables such as wind, current etc. Just curious on what everyone recommends for this. Any information would be helpful.
    Thanks

You should go with an 80# terrova. That should work well for that boat in the current.

What Matt said. I have a 50# and if there’s much current I’m going backwards.

A 55 would work on that size rig most of the time but stepping up to a 80 would be better for high flow or windy days or fishing long days.

A 12v system doesn’t have the juice for even low flow.

Anchor and a couple cleats on each side of the boat is alot cheaper, and alot more fun to play the i think is where I should drop it game. Always can let out more line, ya can’t move farther up tho!

I ran one for a decade on the Mississippi on a similar size boat. If that is what you have you absolutely can make it work. If I was buying new I definitely would not go with a 12v.

Interesting. I ran a 55 on a 17’ Lund for half a season. Wouldn’t make it 2 hours in the river.

That being said, with TM’s on the river bigger is better.
