I would like to go to Lake Mille Lacs and witness the spawning Tullibee. What are the main reefs that they are found spawning on? I know that it is on the southern shore because they like gravel substrate but which reefs do they prefer

No one can recommend any reefs? my dad loves Tullibee but they are hard for me to find. the lake is giant. I hear they are easiet to find during the spawn. Can anyone point me in the right direction? and no we are not fishing for muskies. Maybe crappies. I was looking at Anderson reef and the reef by spider island. Anyone ever witness spawning Tullibee there? How deep do they spawn? you are right. this is like a science project. the first step is to collect information.

    and witness the spawning Tullibee.

Curious how you would accomplish this? Scuba diving? It’s not like you can look over the side of a boat and see down.

During fall full moon tolling for walleye over the years, I have snagged tullibee in that 6-10 foot depth on many if not all of the rock reefs on the east side. Flamingo, Agate, Big Point, Doe. You know they are in there thick when you run your crank through there bouncing off fish. I would assume most of the active spawning occurs during the dark.

Well, ask where the old timers used to net them around this time. I know that Anderson Reef, Indian Point, 3 Mile Reef, Lakeside were at once quite popular.

Rocks, east side, south side, maybe even Myr mar, 40* water temps and you could possibly shine them to see them there to be sure, then catching them is a whole nother game unless you do as Mr. Anderson said, net them… they do it around here yet…

Not sure that ML has fully rebounded yet for tullies-They are in there but the population had a summer kill and took a good hit. Might be better to go a little further north. Good Luck

Wait til January and February and fish the flats. No shortage out there.

That happens every year, wasn’t as bad this year being that there were no extended heat waves. Was actually a good summer as far as not having oppressive heat much at all. Cooled down quick too.

The more notable absence is the eelpout. Used to be plenty, now very few and far between. Same goes for jumbo perch numbers.

    Where did they go? sad
