i fished near some guy using a hummingbird helix 7 last year and was really impressed. we often fish on lake superior in the u.p. of michigan so we are often in deep water (100′ – 250′), the screens are super crisp and the choices of screens were great. after seeing the new helix 9 with SI, and gps i think this is what i will go with along with the navionics map card.

I would bet the lakemaster chip is better than navionics. Its better in MN inland waters anyway.

Fishgeek the vex units are easy to operate and might just outlive you.

so many more options with the hummingbird helix. i know it is more money but it just comes down to what levels of performance you want on the ice. i have a vexilar and used it for years with no issues other than when we were in deep water on lake superior it could not read below 150′.

I got a couple Scheels gift cards for my birthday yesterday and thought I’d maybe go see what was on sale. Then I remembered last year and the same idea only to find traffic a mother at the mall, cops all over directing traffic and literally no place to park. So I stayed home. My daughter and a couple grandkids stopped over today to deliver a couple more goodies that they got AT THE MALL, of all places. Cops and traffic all over again. Cops in Scheels at the exits. No parking.

With these crazed crowds I’m amazed anyone hits the stores. Not my bag.
