new skid plates for the yamaha Kodiak 700. Love the machine, but the under side has a lot to be desired for keeping the slush out. My Artic Cat needed a small piece of plexiglass in the front to stop crap from the plow and slush piling up. Had build up encasing the front dif. Looking to do the same for the Yamy once I know what I need

That Piscifun rod looks interesting.I agree. And the price is right to just give it a try
That’s what I thought. I think on the site it has a wheel that spins that takes another 50% off and great deals on buying more than one of them. I own way too many ice rods with spring bobbers, but it’s all I fish for panfish with.
CaptainMuskyPosts: 23371November 21, 2024 at 7:45 am #2300458My son picked up a vexilar flx30BB yesterday. Since he is an employee he got it for a ridiculous price. Looks like a decent unit for him.

That Piscifun rod looks interesting.
I have had excellent luck with every one of the reels I have bought from them. I actually gave a black betty free fall to a buddy because the piscifun was night and day better. Smoother, quieter, stronger drag etc. No complaints on the reels. I have not bought a rod however.
orve4Posts: 541November 21, 2024 at 1:23 pm #2300558My wife wanted a heavy rod for casting for northerns we paired that with a piscifun purple Carbon X. Reel has been really good. Nice drag to fight bigger fish. I would definitely get another one.

I’ve had similar experience with their reels. Both the inline and Carbon X. I do not own any of their rods so I can’t speak to that.
James AlmquistPosts: 392November 21, 2024 at 2:32 pm #2300582I agree with both of you . Great reels and I bought them at the end of season 2 years ago for less then half of what they are going for now. Won’t use any other inline and some of mine were 3 times the cost.

That Piscifun rod looks interesting. Are the blanks you build on not manufactured in China? Same with half the over priced rod builds these days ? Generally curious ?

I agree! I bought 2 Pleugers, already had the Freefall, had the original piscifun inline and then got the 2 new ones that are the carbon version (has spool control where the first one didnt). After trying the piscifun carbons I returns BOTH of the Pfleugers and gave away the Freefall. Even the cheap inline is a nice little reel but it takes some practice because it doesnt have spool control and you can get a mess LOL. I sort of slow the spool with my fingers.
SlabaholicPosts: 20November 21, 2024 at 7:10 pm #2300624I have a 2000 and 3000 carbon X, they’re sinfully paired on some really nice custom rods I have lol. I’ve probably caught 100+ fish on both, the 2000 has a weird whine thing going on now, but the 3000 is so far bulletproof.
I agree with Bearcat89.. everything is made in China. Like legit every single reel under $300 is made in China.
CaptainMuskyPosts: 23371November 21, 2024 at 8:02 pm #2300633As crazy as this sounds…at least to me…my buddy insists that you take apart a new reel especially a new reel and you boil them in water. Dry out and put the hot sauce in it and button it up. I said he’s nuts but he was super happy to get the free fall I gave him because it was a noisy clunky pos when I tried it.
NodakPosts: 119November 21, 2024 at 10:30 pm #2300672Im sort of setup and dont need to spend much anymore, just change up a few little things. I donated/sold all the cheap stuff I grew up with. I bought and sold lots of gear trying to determine what works best for me. Had some busts, like the Flex Heater and a Jiffy Auger that seized up. I use Stratic 500/1000s with Fenwick elite rods, Vexilar, Otter Lodge for camping, larger size cot, Ion Auger, ultra thin tackle trays, Phoenix light, Two otter sleds for camping, buddy heater, and a yeti power station. Only new thing for this year so far has been bamboo color foam flooring.
November 22, 2024 at 7:42 pm #2300945what is everybody looking at for the upcoming season? i been looking at the hummingbird helix series.
For me since the new Mega Live will not work with my Helix 12
s Gen 3
s and my current Mega Live is excellent. I am waiting to pick up a used Helix 15 Gen 4 cheap for my Mega Live and my 360. My guess is since Humminbird has not come out with anything new for a few years there will be bunch of guys updating their units.November 24, 2024 at 7:32 am #2301063I thought the sale price was bottom price. Did you get the spin % off too? So the $44 rod price went lower? I really like my Piscifun reels. Don’t knock them till you try them.
November 24, 2024 at 7:45 am #2301068I just read a bunch of the reviews. It’s obvious lots complaints from people that have never put a reel on with castration bands. I personally never liked them. It does sound like lots of them come damaged though.
shadedude60Posts: 26November 24, 2024 at 6:49 pm #2301201Looking at a flip over for solo trips. probably get a two man and take a seat out .
November 24, 2024 at 7:06 pm #2301205I am looking for recommendations on a new head lamp for ice fishing. Bonus points if it doesn’t have that stupid strobe light setting.

13 years and counting in the Army and I’ve used just about everything. Black Diamond is by far the most reliable imo. I’ve had the same Storm 450 for 4 years now and it’s been solid.
You can get by with anything, Petzl, Princeton Tec, Energizer, but they will eventually fail from water leaks, leading to corrosion.
I like the brighter headlamps (400+) for walking back to the truck or whatever, and the Black Diamond you can tone down the brightness, which is nice for rigging tackle, conserves battery too.November 25, 2024 at 7:05 am #2301230I am looking for recommendations on a new head lamp for ice fishing. Try these headlamps:
Dazhi

dave crouchPosts: 16November 25, 2024 at 7:34 am #2301237the NEBO EINSTEINS are superb headlamps, 5 different lumen powers from 400 lumens up to 1500 lumens,,, great run time and light weight
CharlesPosts: 1979acarrolinePosts: 619November 25, 2024 at 10:12 am #2301285I did a deep dive into headlamps last year and am currently doing the same with flashlights. last year I bought the Nitecore HC65E with extra cold weather battery. Great unit, long life, lots of light, red light option was important for the ice shack, as was the cold weather battery. I am considering an Olight Perun 3 headlamp this year. Good sale on, very bright, strong warranty, options to remove and magnet to metal or carry in other ways.
November 25, 2024 at 12:39 pm #2301322Thanks for all of the recommendations. I think I might go with the Black Diamond
FlyfishgeekPosts: 16November 27, 2024 at 1:18 pm #2301771My wife loves fishing, especially ice fishing. I bought her a new boat and truck this spring. Just got some heated pop up chairs from Sportsmans. I also just replaced my 10 year old Milwaukee drill with a new one along with the forge batteries. The only thing I want is a good flasher. The wife uses a camera

A lot of stores are unloading the Vexilar FLX-30 with the recent release of the 38. You can still find some decent prices on the 30.

I am going to look into them. I have never owned a flasher and I have been intimidated trying to figure out a good unit that will last.

[/quote]That flx30 is a sweet deal for that 350 to 400 dollar range, and it’s a vexilar so it should last many years
dave crouchPosts: 16November 28, 2024 at 5:23 am #2301884i fished near some guy using a hummingbird helix 7 last year and was really impressed. we often fish on lake superior in the u.p. of michigan so we are often in deep water (100′ – 250′), the screens are super crisp and the choices of screens were great. after seeing the new helix 9 with SI, and gps i think this is what i will go with along with the navionics map card.
