Take advantage of all the $500 rebate asap if they are still going on. Helix series is finally being replaced. I believe the new series is Hummingbird Xplore.

I find it much easier to ask for forgiveness than approval. Just purchase and deal with the fallout after.

As a happily married father of 2 I am thankful my wife generally doesn’t care what I do/buy. There are a few things she questions me on just to make her opinions known, but for those I utilize a plethora of tactics:

    1. The “You Caught Me” strategy. If you buy 3 or 4 of something that she may find unnecessary, I like to leave ONE of the items in plain sight so she thinks she “caught” what I got and she has the chance to question me on it, when in reality she missed most of it. “What did you need another handgun for?” – Ahhh shucks you caught me (as another couple new ones are already loaded into the safe that she will never be aware of in her life).

    2. Alternative Shipping. I’ve had a few things shipped to a buddy’s house before…specifically when she was home on maternity leave and had some heightened awareness to my acquisition of “stuff”. This was the first step to getting a modded mini bike in the garage that was just too good of a deal to pass up.

    3. Strategic Storage. She sees the two giant racks of fishing combos in the garage, but has no idea that when I get a new one I stuff it in the rod locker in the fishing boat. The same goes with trays of tackle. She thinks the ones on the shelves are my “tackle problem”, but the boat already is stocked and I’m rotating them out.

    4. The “Just Borrowing It” approach. She hasn’t asked me about the upgraded aluminum trailer lately that I am “borrowing”, but will probably catch on when she sees it still by the garage in the Spring. whistling

Home Depot did a crazy Black Friday sale last year on the Dewalt 998 Drill. I think I got it for like $200, it had a 6-volt battery, and it came with a free 9-volt as well ($250ish value for just the battery).

I have a smaller Dewalt that does okay but the 998 shreds. I have it paired with the Eskimo pistol bit; it was slicing through 18 inches on Devils last year like nothing.

100%. For us she is the death by 1000 cheap-ish Amazon deliveries, whereas I’m the bought something for a few hundred/thousand every once in a great while. In general though, we embrace the attitude that we both work hard, have good jobs and are responsible financially so if you want something buy it.

The reviews on Piscifun look a bit sketch… have you seen the new ARK ice rods? Very similar look, and priced right. Scheels has them on their site, but I have not seen them in store yet. The catalyst is $49.99 and the Core series is $30.

I always just come home with stuff and she never bats a eye. But she knows I don’t play keeping up with the Jones and I don’t need a 80k boat nor truck. She does question why I have 3 boats in the yard at the moment and multiple trailers. But she can keep on just wondering.

Same, I’ve got a younger brother in his early 20’s wanting to get into ice fishing, so I’ve been shopping around a bit.
