I thought I for sure knew what this lure is called so I told the Belle would give her $100 if she knew what it was.
Well she came up with a guess that blindsided me and I think I lost.
So we agreed that I could throw it out here on IDO where all the experts hang out.
(BTW – I pre-warned her of some of the responses we may receive )
Old, old wooden lure. Sorry EPG, you probably received this new for a birthday gift as a kid.
I don’t think it is a Heddon product with the way the nose is. Mabey Drake’s Sea Bat?
I would not recommend calling the Bell a Sea Bat.
Not a Hula Popper and Heddon has maybe 250 wood lures over its history so which one is she identifying? Plus there’s another 50 or so companies that made similar looking lures.
I’ve been doing some digging and I’m not finding anything from Heddon, Lure Jensen, or Creek Chub that matches the lure in the photo, so I’m tempted to believe it’s a lesser-known brand that produced it.
I’ve had two different reference books out and haven’t seen anything like it in the common brands. There are a ton of basically no-name, small-time companies that didn’t make it that made some interesting baits, and this may be one of them.
Its hard to tell in the pic, does it have a cupped face?
My guess is that it’s the artist’s interpretation of a Heddon Magnum Torpedo removing the rear prop to make it easier to paint/draw. My wife and I received this as a Christmas gift from her well to do aunt and uncle. They asked a local artist to paint it. Since elongated bowls came out the old style more rounded toilets feel like I’m sitting on a bucket, so this hangs on the wall above the throne now.
