What is this?

Furnace was acting up, had a tech come out and pull the fan and this was jamming it. My wife had just changed the filter, curious if she somehow knocked it in there? Lived here 8 years and have never seen this in or near the furnace. Tech had no idea either what it was either.

Made by Filtrete, looked like it was glued to something? Has a pull tab that maybe protects an internal battery? and a small circuit board.

HA! This is why I buy the Ace Hardware basic filter!!! I’m guessing my wife bought a fancy one not knowing what the yellow thing did but I guarantee that she doesn’t have the app that this connects to to tell you to change your filter. Otherwise the battery tab would be pulled. It must’ve fell off the old filter and almost burnt out my blower. Luckily we removed the jam and it all works again.

EDIT – just called her (as she wasn’t home when the tech was here) she said it’s funny becasue the old filter didn’t come out easily and she thought it was almost like there was something blocking it so she just pulled harder and out it came!

This violates Root’s Second Law of Engineering:
