Several of these have been placed on rural roadsides lately in this area. Anybody know what they are used for?

I’m guessing some sort of aerial survey?

I have seen enough roadrunner/coyote scenes to know not to stand on it…..

Yes, this would be my best guess too. Often times aerial photography is flown in the spring before trees are full of leaves. Using a GPS location on the X for georeferencing.

Interesting, thought it was like cheerios for kids learning to pee in the potty, but outside.

Im surprised no one said it had something to do with that 8efe28aeba5bfd44 nonsense.

I wonder if that post wasn’t the result of a mistake posting a pic considering how pictures are managed here, we could probably call this thread the B11457F72384DE20 thread

Years ago they used them to catch speeders with a stop watch and a plane. If there is another one a mile away I’ll bet that’s what its for???

There were pictures of airplanes painted right on the lanes of Hwy 169 going to Mille Lacs. Anybody here old enough to remember that? It was back before it went 4 lane up to Onamia.

Yup. It was a pain in the ass going through Princeton and Milaca. A narrow 2-laner at that. Get behind a camper pulling a boat and you were screwed.

Definitely not for catching speeders. One is on a dead end gravel rd, the other is at a river access turn-around. Others are on rural gravel roads.

More than likely a drone survey/mapping.

A few years they could aerial survey where the county wanted to move the gravel road. They were in my dads field and were just like that.

That’s an X, or a T. Depending on how you look at it.
