    Plastic is a key component in light weighting cars which in turn improves gas mileage or EV mileage per charge.

    Thinsulate and other synthetic insulation fibers are plastic.

    Rubber and plastic come from the same barrel of oil or natural gas derivative. Rubber = neoprene, butyl, etc… Most rubber materials are cured (cross-linked) so they are less recyclable.
