Due to a last minute change in our Christmas plans we are now going to be home for Christmas and our daughter is coming home to join us. Trying to come up with a menu is seeming to be difficult. Neither my wife or Daughter are fans of anything seafood ( I love it all ) so that is out. I love prime rib but once again neither the wife or daughter are fans. Going through the trouble and expense to make one for myself and something else for them doesn’t make sense. I was thinking of possibly doing something on the grill but we recently had both pulled pork and ribs. I was hoping maybe some of your Menu’s would possibly help me get inspired.

How about pork chops? I might be making some for us. Thought about doing a prime rib, but like you the majority of my family wouldnt eat it.

Home made egg rolls and fried rice on Christmas Eve. Been a tradition for about 15 years now.

Smoked Prime Rib w/ mac n cheese as always for Christmas.
New Years eve is a seafood feast and New Years day will be a F&O’s cheese topper pizza supplied from a neighbor as a gift during the bowl games.

Pork Chops is a possibility. I know the wife likes them and the daughter will probably be fine with that. What style of pork chops do you like and how do you cook them? I would think they would be great on the pellet grill. Have never tried them on the pitboss yet.

Thick cut Pork Chops on the Weber gas grill. I do them right in the garage, gives it a nice smell.

Porketa Christmas Eve and prime rib on Christmas day

Porketa – I had to google a few videos on that one. I have never ate it, less made it. It looks tasty. Had I not just done a pork butt this one would be high on my list. I’m going to put this suggestion in my memory back to try down the road.

I know that smell you are talking about. After rolling the pellet grill back into my garage after each smoke/BBQ everything in there smells like smoked meat. The last ice outing my partner said what’s that smoky smell. Turns out it was my bibs and jacket in the back seat. They hang in my garage. He said it was a vast improvement over the usual sticky fish smell.

Beef Tenderloin on the smoker, whiskey glazed carrots, some sort of salad, brussel sprouts with craisins/feta cheese, berries and sweet cream for dessert.

The berries and sweet cream is my absolute favorite, try it out and you won’t be disappointed! Recipe just says blackberries, but I do strawberries/raspberries and blackberries.

Also, check out Morelli’s in St. Paul this time of year. Untrimmed Beef Tenderloin for $9.97/lb!!!

We do Thielen’s Venison sausage and wild rice for Christmas Eve, and a leg of lamb on Christmas with all the fixings. Best meals of the year!

We have waffles, sausage, and mimosas for dinner on Christmas Eve after we get home from church. Quite possibly my favorite meal of the entire year.

I like the thicker cut bone in ones. My family really likes the marinated ones from mcdonalds meats in Clear Lake. Typically I just grill them, but I have smoked them at low temp for a while and then cranked up the heat and put them back on. Ive even just done seared them on cast iron then put them in a crockpot (usually boneless for this scenario) and then include a bunch of vegetables and some cream of soup like cream of mushroom. You can eat the air in the house it smells so good.

Was just in Mcdonalds meats yesterday. Had to stop and get some jerky and a coke for a drive to Blaine. Ate almost the full package of jerky on the drive down and back. It was the large package so that was way to much jerky – but it was yummy !!! Wish I had know about our changes in plans prior to being there, I could have just picked up something while there. Oh well its not to far of a drive to go back. I may be passing through there on my way fishing in the morning anyway

Christmas Eve – rolled stuffed flank steak, roasted green beans/acorn squash/potatoes, green salad and apple pear crisp.

Christmas Day – the guys make omelets and bacon for the family, usually a stollen or pastries. Dinner this year is sparse, kids will be with the in-laws. I am likely staying with the egg theme, making an onion spinach frittata with salad and bread.

New Year’s Day – our tradition is a roast turkey with stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy, etc. May be a small bird this year, smaller crowd than past years.

    Merry Christmas to all!

Have you tried the pickled fish yet? How did they turn out? did you follow the standard recipe or put a personal spin on it?

Just opened my last jar. will have to spend a day or two tip up fishing soon to get enough for another batch

Instead of stressing over a big main meal, do what my in-laws do. Make it a laid-back Christmas and make several appetizers and snacks and just have it going all day for casual grazing and conversation, game playing, etc. a few dips, salads, meat/cheese, veggie tray, etc. I think the most “main course” thing on the menu tomorrow is a crock pot of sloppy joe meat. Always a great meal!

Fried rice and Hibachi on the black stone Christmas Eve. Walleye fry on Christmas day. I was against the fish fry as I am currently loaded up the kids and I are ready to head up to Red Sunday morning. I’m sure we will eat plenty of fish up there for 5 days. But once she mentioned it to the guests as a possibility, it was quickly voted yes. On the plus side I got to go catch some fresh walleyes, so there is that. Merry Christmas y’all.

Good call there. Pretty easy to come up with a bunch of appetizers, good variety too for the picky eaters.

I was also going to say french dip sandwiches. You can just get deli roast beef, throw in an au jois and the beef and onions into a crock pot. Get some buns and swiss cheese and boom. Pretty easy.
