What is "hard line"?

In a discussion on crankbait rods, a couple of posters referred to using hard line. I googled it, but get the feeling it’s a stiff mono used for saltwater leaders. I don’t think that’s what the posters were talking about. Can someone educate me?

…The Braid lines and other None Stretch lines that are not mono. Are called hard lines because they have Zero Stretch… …rrr

Why? Braid is a more precise term, and it takes fewer keystrokes to type. Makes no sense to me. Is there some secret fraternity of elite anglers who are trying to confuse us peons by making up new terms for ordinary stuff?

Some hard lines are not braided. For example, Fireline is not a braid.

braid = hard line = hard to break line. Atleast that’s what I have always gone by…

My wife always tells me, “anything hard is good”. I really wish I knew what she was talking about? Maybe she is into fishing more than I thought?

Okay I may have an idea…

I use a Mason Hard mono for Trout leaders.
    1′ of 10,12#
    3′ of 8#

This is a stiff mono to help turn the leader over.

Then we tie light supple tippet to the leader to help it land softly.

But I don’t use the stuff in any other application because it is like wire compared to regular mono.
