I have one of those rare weekends where my wife is gone with friends. I have the dogs so I can only day trip.
Thinking of a local spot I know and a new one I just found out about for gills. That and the show maybe. I really want to catch eyes but that will have to wait a little longer.

I went fishing this morning but after a short time I ran out of worms.
Then I saw a cottonmouth with a frog in his mouth. Frogs are good bass bait.

Knowing the snake couldn’t bite me with the frog in his mouth
I grabbed him right behind the head, took the frog, and put it in my bait bucket.

Now the dilemma was how to release the snake without getting bit.
So, I grabbed my bottle of Jack Daniels and poured a little whiskey in its mouth.

His eyes rolled back, he went limp.
I released him into the lake without incident and carried on fishing using the frog.

A little later, I felt a nudge on my foot.
There was that same snake with two frogs in his mouth.

Early ice slabs for this cat in North-Central WI. Gonna try out a few new weed edges I marked on the GPS earlier this fall and hop around scouting a lot, so hopefully I can find a few crappies under the ice to tangle with. Either way its gonna be a blast getting out on the ice for the first time this year hearing the buzz of the auger and the eagles screeching, that’s my kind of paradise. Good luck to you wherever you decide to go, the show sounds so awesome but too far away for me to make it. Plus I’d rather be fishing that spending my college money on new fishing toys and equipment.

Hopefully find safe ice in the Chicago burbs…..possible, not too probable.

To my knowledge, there’s not much ice going on in Southern Ontario either, eh? wave

Am going to wait until early weekday next week to get out on the ice.

red fish, flounder, sheepshead, and something called a pompano. Hoping for these while fishing from shore on the gulf coast in Florida just south of Sarasota.

Hands down the most entertaining thing I’ve read today. Love it.

That’s funny. I thought is was the most ridiculous. Assumed it was lyrics from some obscure song.

It’s a joke. I have heard it before but it still made me chuckle.

Headed to hayward. Gonna try Icenutz’s tipdowns for crappie and tipup some pike. Full moon and warmer weather. Should be good!

Picking the kids up from school today, on the way home it’ll be tip-ups for ‘eyes, and some jigging for me!
The weekend proper: Different lake, flags for the kids and exploring for some bigger panfish for me. Oh, and lots and lots of snacks; did I mention kids?

Another of life’s small paradoxes: In WI, kids get three lines as well on my license(still one license limit), so we can really scatter the tip-ups and cover some water, and I can still leave a line for me to jig with. The paradox? The difference (to me at least) in overall quality of fisheries between WI and MN. I still do better in MN waters…It sure is fun for the kids though! First time all week my over-tired 6-yr old bounced out of bed this morning-she’d remembered we’re going fishing! -)

Ive lived most my life in WI. Moved to the cities a few years ago. I have heard the statement above several times over the past few seasons. Ive done most of my fishing in the La crosse and Hayward. Ive been pretty content with the fisheries in Wi. I havent spent much time on MN water. Is it really that much better than WI fishing?

Troutbum, PM sent so I don’t hijack the post.

On the other hand…it COULD just be that I’m just a REALLY poor fisherman! -)

I have some chores to finish up this weekend, but I hope to sneak out fir some crappies either towards evening tonight or tomorrow. I am going to South Dakota next weekend, and I don’t want to be on Mrs Santa’s hit list! I may set a tip-up out for pike, too.

I’m not, to busy looking for fishable ice the 14in of snow is not going to help much but is a welcomed sight.
