curious if anyone thought about this. If the border doesn’t open at all, would it make sense to prorate the outdoors fishing license?

In the grand scheme of things losing out on your license isn’t the end of the world. You will waste more money on cheap beer or 1/2 dead minnows this year.

This is the first year I’ve ever bought my Ontario fishing license any earlier than the day before our August trip.

This will also be the last.

Not expecting to get my money back but the world has bigger problems than me losing out on my $60 or whatever it was. If all this is over, I’ll be stoked to buy another license next year.

Think of it as a donation.

We went up to the NW Angle in February and fished 1 of the days in Canada waters…so my 2020 license wasn’t a total bust. doah

But our trips in June and August didn’t pan out. Hopefully we’ll be good to go in 2021.

How far ahead did you buy your license?

I know a Guy who has a older DWI and he has to spend a ton of money each year ( $600.00+ ) to get the proper documents to go to Canada fishing. They take forever to process the documents, so he now gets a early start ( Several years he’s just received his documents less than a week prior to our scheduled trip date ) So he is out far more than the cost of a license. My guess is he will have to start all over again early next year and pay another 600.00. Not even knowing if he will be able to get into Canada or not.

I would be real surprised if they allow them to carry over. It’s not the “fault” of the natural resource department that nobody got to fish this year.

I think the logistics of either reimbursing them or allowing a previous year’s license are probably not worth their time. Anybody that wants to go after the border is re opened will probably be willing to buy a new license.

Correct me if I am wrong but I thought any entrance into Canada for pleasure was not permitted. I’m not sure what your outfitter told you but you are not allowed into canadian waters.
