What a time to get the little ones out….

The boys had a blast on the south rocks last Saturday. How many 3 and 5 year olds can go out and catch 24 to 26″ class walleyes right now and say they caught there PBs. Did have several 16 to 19 inchers mixed in, but most were bigs. The hardest part of the day was explaining why we need to put them back instead of bringing one or two home to show mom. But what a great time to get the little ones out to enjoy and learn how to catch fish. Besides having a blast with the boys while picking up leeches on the boat carpet floor and helping/watching them catch fish, was taking time with my oldest about how we were setting up on structure. And I have to say that XI5 held our spot awesome with that brisk wind throughout the day, no lag time. Some fish were skinny, but several looked great (healthy).

What an awesome experience for kids that age. Way-to-go!
I fished alot growing up with my father but can assure you, I didn’t catch those quality fish at that age.
Memories for ever but also heart ache when they go to other places and try to achieve or top that of quality Walleyes.

Good for you, Serpant. Nothing like passing it on to our little ones. They’ll remember the big fish on the big lake for sure!

Thinking it might have been alot for me to put my boat in by myself and keep an eye on my 5 year old grandson…guess I took an easier option and went out on McQuoids launch Saturday morning. It worked well because I could just focus on helping and teaching him some things while not having to worry about the boat responsibilities. Need to get him out more though, he liked to touch the leeches…but was afraid of the fish. Ha… lol

I found this post from last year, and figured to “bump” with some photos from a year later. Another fun one day excursion on the southern rocks, with the boys now 4 and 6. Even the wife got into the action. The boys love this Lake. I have to say, it was funny listening to my oldest (Carson) telling my wife (Kelly) why her fish had to go back in the lake.

Thanks guys for the previous replies and kudos to dads/moms getting the next generation out. Very important in these times.

    Thats awesome!
A fish like that to those guys fighting to bring it in is like one of us fighting a 100 lb plus Tuna!
Looks like you had an early Father’s Day present waytogo

The smallies were shallow all last week. Crazy good bite sight fishing shallow. Fun watching the neighborhood kids get lots of fish right off the dock. peace
