Wet cell phone

Forgot I had my cell phone in the waders pocket while duck hunting today and it got wet. Not for long but it would not turn on. I put it in rice all day and it will turn on and seem to work but my screen swipe won’t work. Any thoughts? It’s a Galaxy S4. I put it back in the rice for now.

Sorry to hear about the phone –
Getting a cell phone wet is poison speaking from personal experience. The rice trick may work but there always seems to be some glitch that keeps nagging on and on.

Put it in the oven for a couple of hours at 120 F (50 deg C) for a couple hours with a small fan on it to move air and bake out the moisture.

A friend and I were canoeing when we dumped the canoe and he had both phone and camera on him… Both worked fine after baking the moisture out of them.

The manufacturers put a water indicator in the battery compartment which turns pink if the phone gets wet. They will not replace a phone that is claimed to be defective if the dot has turned pink.

They have these magical drying machines at some cell retailers here and there. Forgot what they’re called but do what ya need.

Problem being you turned it on already. If water was still in there I’m sure you shorted out stuff you shouldn’t have. Good luck.

Leave it in the rice. Rice will eventually attract Asians and they fix phones.

This^^^. When Mrs Grouse dropped her cell phone in a pool (don’t ask), she took it to the Phone FixIt place and they have a cell phone toaster they put it in to dry it out. 4 hours in the toaster, it was good to go, but they told her right off, do NOT try to turn it on again, just bring it in.

As an aside, this was the second time in a couple of months that Mrs. Grouse gave a device the “sleeping with the fishes” treatment. Her iPad went into Boston Harbor without a life vest earlier that year. No, I don’t want to talk about it.

Hopefully there is a cell phone repair place in Vikingland out there.

Do you have a vacuum bagger? Vacuum will raise the vapor pressure of the water and help convert it from water to water vapor making it much more mobile. Put it the rice, pull a vacuum on it and seal. You can even add the 120 f heat at that time too. If that doesn’t work it’s toast.

I’m no expert but I would be very skeptical of adding heat to the cell phone. IMO

Pulled it out of the rice today and everything works! I turned the phone on and it has been going off for the last 10 minutes with incoming text messages. doah
