I am thinking of heading to western MN for a quick trip this weekend. Drive out Saturday morning and come right back to Rochester. I don’t mind to much about shooting birds just getting some action for the dog. Has anyone been over south of Worthington this year or by luverne? If I can get the dog to be able to point/flush or get on some scent I will be fulfilled on the trip.

Don’t waste your time if your looking to get your dog on birds go to Orlando gamefarm in miesvile probly 30 min north of u if your in Rochester. I was just there Monday. 17.00 a bird. 12 birds costed us 204.00 but it’s not Evan about that I have a younger dog and it’s great practice for them. U would drive all over Minnesota for 12 birds and still pay more in fuel.. And if u tell them u have a young dog they can wrAp duct tape on there feet so they can’t run as good. But still fly.

Not to deter or say anything negative against Orlando as I have hunted there before and was treated very well. I am a pheasant hunter myself and if you are in Training Mode I would suggest 3 Arrows Hunt Club in LeRoy. 4 Bird Minimum and it will cost you about $100, about the same or less than you will spend in gas going to Luvurne.

There is better cover at 3 Arrows and the birds will hold nicer, Orlando is all corn field and the birds will be hot to run, better cover will also help a dog learn to hunt and not chase if your in training mode. If you have never hunted Western MN, make sure you have some land access or public hunting scoped out before you make the trip. I hunting public hunting for roosters a lot and I do just fine.

Thank you for the information guys. I am going to try grouse hunting this weekend and contact the game farms to get some options in place for the next few upcoming weeks.

hunted last sunday in Slayton and the conditions were brutal but still managed to see over 20 pheasants mostly hens. Want to get the dog out you will find birds on almost any WMA that is close to corn.

We made it over just south east of Worthington on Sunday. There were a lot of people out. We did manage to flush a couple of hens and one rooster. All in all the dog got her exercise and another bird under her belt so it was worth the drive.
